I just called my personnel center to get some information about maternity leave and the lady that took my question wasn't helpful and plain rude. Everytime I call I get a different answer and now they are trying to tell me that I have to go 7 days without pay while in the hospital - are they kidding? It was that or use my saved week of vacation to fund it. Laying in a hospital isn't vacation in my eyes. I'm not sure what to do at this point but pissed that they can't be nice. Not a happy camper and have no idea what to do - and my manager isn't helpful on this topic. Yuck.

This is same info that was told to my friend who is due 3 days after you. Apparently her company is the same in that their STD doesn't kick in for a week either. She is using a week of vacation for her first week, then she gets her 6 (or 8 for c-section) weeks of STD. Then she uses her additional 2 weeks vacation. What's really strange is that both of our companies use the same STD carrier and mine kicked in right away.

How frustrating! If it makes you feel any better I had to use PTO for all of my mat. leave. None of it was paid.

Yeah I have heard of the week wait for STD as well. I'm will Blayne on this though, my 6 weeks were all unpaid

I emailed my manager and asked for their advice. Looks like I'll be using my vacation to cover the time I go out. Not much I can do and after reading that some of you didn't even get paid - I really can't say much. Thanks for letting me vent.

I struggle with trying to discuss leave with people as well. It's so frustrating. Good luck in finding answers Dana.
