Anyone else a Strep B carrier?
When it was time for the test (32 weeks? 34?) my OB didn't run it because she said it was already known that I am a Strep B Carrier from a test early on in my pregnancy (or maybe even prior to pregnancy?)
Anyway, has anyone else had this happen?
Or, if you are a carrier... did your doc advise you at all? I was watching a Baby Story-ish show about a lady who took antibodies for it prior to going into labor... but my OB didn't mention wanting me to do that.
I'll be asking at my 38 week appt. tomorrow, but I just wanted to get some input from you ladies as well!
Re: Strep B Question
If you're Strep B positive you will automatically be given antibiotics (not antibodies) beginning when you get to the hospital during labor.
Double check with your doctor but that's pretty much the norm.
Did I really type antibodies?! Oh, yeah... I did. I meant antibiotics, obvi! I'm at work and only semi coherent.
Pregnancy brain!!
I'm a strep B carrier, but they tested me at 34 weeks. I didn't think they were supposed to test until 35-37 weeks. Anyway...my doctor said they will simply administer antibiotics through an IV before the baby is born. He informed me that even without antibiotics in the IV the chances of it harming the baby are very slim, but with the antibiotics there's really nothing to worry about.
Ha! Believe me, I understand the pregnancy brain thing. Just thought I would make sure you didn't go asking the doctor for some antibodies.
