blackout curtains

Has anyone ever used something like this??  The nursery window gets a ton of afternoon sun and I want blackout curtains.  I'm looking for a pretty specific color so I'm thinking it will be easier to find regular curtains and line them.  What do you think?

Re: blackout curtains

  • I use the Eclipse brand that you can get at Target and Walmart.  I really like them and they are great for blacking out.

  • OK this sounds weird, I know.  I worked nights for many years.  I just used regular curtains and black trash bags.  You couldn't tell from outside of the house that it wasn't just a dark room and it worked better that anything else because I could make them fit EXACTLY.

    Good Luck!

  • My mom had black out liners like that at her house for the kids room. Not sure where they came from, but worked very well.  I got my black out curtains from target, but they only came in certain colors as you mentioned.
  • I bought a set from Target for the Nursery a couple of months ago..I HATE them.  I loved my curtains but the liners are crap.  So I am buying blackout curtains instead if I can find the size and color I want in stock that is!  (That was another post somewhere about JCP)

  • lowe's has them but they look like roman shades kinda. that way you can still use regular curtains in the specific color. that is the kind we are going to get.
  • Can you sew or know someone who does? Blackliner is cheap in yard fabric at Hobby Lobby. My mom is sewing my curtains and I'm saving so much money this way.

  • I have tried similiar curtains and they do not work.  I have been using for the past year a pull down black-out blinds that I bought from Lowes. They have been awesome!!  They are the only brand of black-out blinds that Lowes carries.  You have to have them cut to fit your windows. I love them and they are pretty inexpensive.
