Postpartum Hair Loss?

If you had it happen, how long did it last? I'm just trying to figure out if this is normal. In addition to the strands I've been finding all over my clothes it has been falling out in clumps in the shower too. At this rate I'm going to have bald spots in a couple of months. This does stop right?

Re: Postpartum Hair Loss?

  • I don't remember how long it lasted, but yeah I felt like I was going to be bald... it does end!!!  :D

ETA: And, I am NOT bald... haha!!!

  • Yes, it DOES end, and you WILL still have hair. Smile

For me, it stopped at about 7 months PP. (And when I say stopped, I mean, returned to my pre-PG level of hair loss.)

  • lol, good to know it does stop! :) It's just shocking how much comes out.
  • I didn't notice it until I went back to work last time, so around 3.5 months...and I did have two bald spots! Thankfully everything went back to normal at some point. Probably by 6 months.

  • I was really scared by the amount of hair I lost after having my son... I thought I would definitley be bald in some spots but Im not =)  I do have much thinner hair now than I used too...but I think it is only noticeable to me.

I used to lose huge clumps of hair in the shower... and it started to get better after almost a year!

  • With N it lasted a couple months, Mostly in the shower but also a little through the day. I did end up with one bald spot but the hair started growing back pretty quickly.

With A, I lost for MONTHS and ended up with something that looked like male pattern baldness, I was loosing by the handful all day not just in the shower.  Everytime I touched my head I'd lose handfuls.  There were hair balls everywhere (SO GROSS).  So I went to the doctor and it turned out I had some other stuff going on.

So, in my experience, lots in the shower with little bits throughout the day is normal, handfulls all the time and big clumps at a time is not normal and warrents a call to the doctor.

  • ugh - its so annoying. theres hairs EVERY.WHERE. For me it starts around month 4 and lasts well into the 8th month. The the regrowth starts .... blahhhh. little baby hairs frame my face, not cute.
  • My hair loss started at around 3.5 months. I'm still losing quite a bit of hair, but it's not the extreme amount I was losing before. I can't wait for my hair to go back to normal!! I'm hoping it happens SOON!
