North Dakota Babies

Eff you Delta

Delta changed my seats for my flight back from California. Normally I could care less if I am seated next to my husband, but when I will be holding an antsy toddler and breastfeeding in a middle seat between two strangers I am a little pissed. I called and there is nothing they can do about it. I think that is a load of crap. What the ef is the point of booking early to ensure you get seats next to each other when other people can come in and take your seat?

And I realize that millions of people fly solo every day with babies, but its the principle that we DID have seats next to each other, Alexa sits still for all of 5 seconds AND I will be breastfeeding for take off and decent.

Vent over :)

Re: Eff you Delta

  • Um, yeah. I'd be pissed! Hopefully someone on the plane will be nice and switch seats with you.

Did you ask for a supervisor while on the phone with Delta? It's ridiculous to book seats in advance to later have them moved.

  • Um, that is ridic.  Maybe someone sitting next to you or Eric will be nice and switch seats.  People are generally very nice to families.  I have given up my seat on a flight before so a family can sit together, even if it means Timm and I are separated.  So hopefully someone nice sits next to you or Eric.

  • I'd be UBER pissed.

Hopefully they can either move you around when you check in at the airport (I swear my seats have changed almost every time I check in for some reason) or someone will be nice and switch with you on the plane.

  • That is ridiculous!  Hopefully someone will switch with your or you ask when you check in.  I would call back and see if you get someone else that can help.  We did that when we missed our flight we finally got someone that could do something.  GL
  • That is SO ridiculous!  I would do all of the above suggestions.  Call back and ask to speak with a supervisor.  If that doesn't work, ask to have your seats switched at check in and then as a last resort, ask the flight attendant when boarding if there might be anyone willing to switch seats.

    GL!

  • OMFG that makes me irate! Mostly because I've seen this exact topic discussed on boards on TN, and I feel like SO MANY people who don't have kids just assume that people who are separated from their spouse just didn't even bother to book their seats together just assuming that someone will be nice and switch. Other boards go ON AND ON about how irresponsible mothers are and how "Well I've NEVER had my seat switched. I've never heard of it actually happening, and I travel every week." Right. You travel every week, which means airlines will bend over for you and your elite club status, whereas those of us who only travel once in a while and make it a point to book months in advance so we have seats together, airlines don't seem to have any regard for us since we don't give them regular business.

I'm sorry. That totally touched a nerve. I could go on for hours about how pissed off this makes me. One time an airline took our EIGHT MEMBER PARTY that was booked 6 MONTHS OUT with seats reserved together and put each one of us in different sections of the plane. My 2 yo nephew was assigned to be in first class by himself. snort. I'm in a terrible mood today, and I'm obviously super effing pissed for you, K. AAAAACK!

  • I hope they let you change - that is just nuts to change your seat on you. It's tough enough flying and then they change your seat. Crossing fingers that someone will change for you guys.
  • Elite status doesn't help with Delta....I am so missing Northwest!!

We had our seats upgraded to first class from DFW a month ago and they couldn't get us together either and were rude about it.  Luckily the person sitting next to DH agreed to move.

Now DH is working in Africa and he is on a business class ticket...seat changes won't stick with Delta...he has had to call them twice to get the seats fixed.  Same thing with my Mum who isn't elite who is flying to Europe this month.  I change her seats and they don't stick the next time I sign in for her...its Delta.  They have seriously big problems and if this is a bad winter in MSP, they are going to have major problems.  They won't let people catch earlier flights anymore like Northwest did....that will bite them in the butt flights start getting canceled.  I really wish we had some other option, but basically that's the only airline we have so we're stuck.

    I feel for you!!

  • Yup, flight status doesn't matter on Delta or Air France for that matter.  Hopefully people will be nice and switch.  That happened to us in the summer coming back from Romania, and we were lucky someone switched with us, but it was such a pain in the A$$ to ask people.  And both DH and I are Platinum status on AF and booked months in advance.

I hope it all works out Kim!

  • I know when I traveled with Mari, they changed people around at the check-in counter so Peter and I could sit together with Mari.  Give it a shot - I'm sure they'll be empathetic.
  • Definitely try asking when you check in or hopefully you can some nice people to switch with you. I'm sorry they did that
