can you tell me how your experience has been with GD the 2nd time around?

i had a horrible time controlling my #s last time and ended up with 4 shots of insulin a day.  so i'm worried that i'm going to end up with the same thing this time around.  i'm already trying to get in the mindset of eating like i already have GD but it's SO hard since i'm a carb junkie.  :-(

did they make you take the glucose test earlier this time around? or just assume you already had it?

last time they sent me to an endocronologist  for my diabetes diagnosis and monitoring, so if that happens this time, i'll have to make the hour trip for that.  but last time the place i went to was really good about just letting me fax my #s and i had minimal office visits with them.

only good thing about GD was it controlled my weight gain since i couldn't eat all the sweets that i wanted lol!

  • For the 2nd time around they tested me at 12 weeks and I failed.  I have been diet controlled thus far, but was considered high risk until my 20 week U/S b/c of my GD and my age!

I have to see the diabetic crazies for counseling every 2 weeks even though I'm diet controlled and my numbers are good ( i guess maybe they think i'm fibbing with my #;s??).  I fax my BS in on the off week.  My O/B also had me doing 2 extra growth U/S (at 30 and 35 weeks) at the more specialized U/S place (can't remember the exact name of the specialists but it's where I did my 1st Trimester screen).  I'm starting to think it's a conspiracy to spend my FSA dollars!

I do think though that this time around I've had a harder time controlling my diabetes and I've had to incorporate walking 15 minutes after Lunch / Dinner to get my numbers under control.  It's a pain, but now I'm more of the midset that I don't want to go on insulin just b/c the diabetic crazies always told me I would.  I'm a bit stubborn like that!

  • yeah i had to do the walking thing after meals last time but it didn't really do anything for my #s.

well at least you're almost done with it all! you made it this far w/o meds that's great!  they put me on after a week lol.
