another going back to work question

What does your morning routine look like?

I've noticed that Elise will wake around 3 for a feeding and then again around 6-6:30.  This always varies though depending on the time she has her last feeding which is usually around 10 p.m.  But, since DH takes care of the last feeding so I can go to sleep early, I never know at exactly what time it was (I always ask him, but he never remembers the exact time).  So, I was thinking about what our morning routine would look like.  If my mom comes over to our house in the beginning (which she has mentioned is a big possibility), then it's not really a big deal.  I can just do what I'm doing now (feed/change/back to sleep) and get ready for work either before or after her morning feeding.  However, if I have to get her ready to go to grandma's house, it's a different story.  DH will most likely be dropping her off and I'll pick her up, but I'll have to feed her and get her ready since he goes to bed later and wakes up later than I do.  He goes to work around 9, but I have to be there by 8.

Also, I am still pumping.  I was initially going to wean her on to formula completely by January and I've started cutting back a little on the pumping but I have gotten really sore in between pumpings and haven't really been able to cut back b/c I'm afraid of getting clogged ducts/mastitis. I am considering pumping in the morning and evenings, so that would have to be something else to add to the morning routine.   How would I go about eliminating the mid-day pumping sessions?  I want to do it slowly to avoid any problems.

TIA

Re: another going back to work question

  • My morning routine doesn't change much by taking the boys to grandmas as compared to being home. He usually eats between 7-8 am and gets changed then off to grandmas. If feeding does not land before leaving then just make sure you or your mom have a bottle ready.

weaning midday session - this is what I did when I weaned Evan last year and it was pretty easy and painless. Basically,if I would normally pump at 12pm for 5 minutes, I started to slowly decrease the number of minutes. For 2-3 days I pumped 4 then 3 minutes, then 2 min, so forth. If I felt I was engorged I would continue at same number of minutes until it got better then continued to decrease. Once I was comfortable at 1 minute, I would only pump if I got full andwould take out a minimum amount of milk to be comfortable .

    Good luck! :-)

  • I see...  I have been pumping for 20 minutes each time, so I was going to cut back about 5 minutes each week.  But, it seems like that was too much.  I'll try cutting back one minute each 2-3 days like you did and, hopefully, that will work out better.
