South Florida Babies

Hey, i have a question. In your tennis post you mentioned you had a bad tear with your first and then a c-section with #2. Did you plan a c-section because of your tear the first time? I had a really bad experience with Zoe, a few tears that didn't heal right and got infected, it was a nightmare.  As of now I don't plan to have another baby, but I know in the back of my mind there's a chance i could change my mind, but am terrified of the same thing happening again. Everyone tells me just ask for a c-section instead, but that scares me too. Compared to the bad tear with the v-birth, was the c-section the better option for you?

  • Hey Mel..

I did not plan on having a c-sec with the second but to be honest with you, the recovery was 100 times better.  With my 1st she got stuck in my birth canal (apparently Im narrow) and they had to vacuum her out.  She actually ended up in the nicu because of it. (she breathed in fluid into her lungs) And while they sucked her out her arm was stuck and tore me from the inside out (nucheal (sp) tear).  I was always in pain.  I couldn't sit right for months after delivery.  I got pregnant with my second when DD was 1 and I really thought I could never have the same thing happen again, right??

But I ended up with pre-eclampsia and at 38 weeks they were afraid I was going to stroke after a 24 hour hospital monitor, so they said they were taking him right then.  And with my previous getting stuck issues (DS was bigger than DD too) they were not even going to try an induction.

And let me tell you, the c-section for me was a breeze recovery.  I was up and around and really felt no pain.  Uncomfortable for a bit yes but pain like the 1st NOPE.

My doc wont do a vbac and I am pleased to have another c-section. And yes I realize its major surgery and I was always very against one before I had the experience i did. :)

  • thanks Liz! I know, i also feel like nothing could be as bad as my first experience. how could stomach pain be worse than months of crotch pain? i also couldn't sit right for about 4 months and i'd say it took til 14 months to even have sex without pain! i feel like i couldn't even get pregnant again unless i was guaranteed a c-section, even though that scares me too! oye, the things we go through!!!!
