Baby girl has RSV

Anybody been through this?  The nebulizer is only slightly helping. Pedi says if things aren't better by this afternoon we have to take her to the hospital.  Crying

  • My DS had RSV at 5 months old.  It was awful.  We took him to the pedi and they sent him right to Children's Hospital.  They seriously should not make hospital gowns that small. :(  Thankfully, after about 8 hours there on constant neb treatments and after several tests, he finally passed and they let us take him home. (He passed on the last test before being admitted... I swear I would have stayed in the hospital every second until they let him go.)

If you're worried, maybe take her to the hospital anyway? There they can at least monitor her and her breathing.

Best of luck mama!  I'm sure everything will be fine!  'Tis the season (unfortunately!)

  • DS had RSV when he was 6 weeks old.  As awful as it was to have him in the hospital at that age, I felt so much better knowing he was being constantly watched by people who knew what they were doing - going there this afternoon wouldn't be a bad thing.  Hope your DD feels better soon, I know how much RSV sucks!
  • DD had it when she was 3 months old. She was in the hospital for 3 days and I never left her side (except when they had to put in her IV, I couldn't watch. Just hearing her scream from it was enough to make me break down). It was a horrible feeling seeing her hurting so bad, but once they finally diagnosed her and started treatments, she started playing, talking, and being herself again. If you feel like the nebulizer treatments aren't doing the trick, take her to the hospital. She may need steriods also.

I hope she starts feeling better soon. Also, don't stress and try to get as much rest as possible.

  • I haven't had any experience with RSV myself (Corri gets Synagis shots to prevent it due to her preemie-ness), but you can pop onto the Preemies board as well. The ladies there are always supportive and sweet, and a few of them have gone through it with their little ones. Hope your LO feels better soon!
