If I am 20 weeks, how many months am I? — The Bump
2nd Trimester

If I am 20 weeks, how many months am I?

I turned 20 weeks today (whoo hoo!!).  I am trying to figure out how you count how many months you are based on weeks.

My co-worker said 4 weeks does not equal 1 month in the pregnancy world.  I would think since I am 20 weeks I am 5 months - 2 weeks into being 5 months so I could also say I am 4.5 months. Is this correct?

Re: If I am 20 weeks, how many months am I?

  • I just tell people in weeks, if they look at me funny I round it or say about four months.

  • 17.5 weeks is 4 months, every 4w3d is one month.

If you punch your due date into the right hand side of the screen, it will tell you how far along you are in months.

  • If you're 20 out of 40 weeks in, you're halfway through your pregnancy, or about 4.5 out of 9 months. Each month is >4 weeks anyway, in pregnancy or otherwise (except for non-leap-year Februaries).
  • I'd tell people about 4 1/2 months.

  • seeing how 20 weeks is half way through 40 and they say you are pregnant for 9 months I would say 20 weeks is 4 and a half months.

  • Pregnancy months are generally counted in Lunar months, which are 4 weeks each.  That is why they also say you are pregnant for more than 9 months.

But medical people will always count in weeks, because it's more accurate.

  • I think it's easier now to count back from your due date and assume a 9 month pregnancy.  My EDD is about 4 months away so I'd say I'm about 5 months if someone asked.

  • Depending on who I am talking to, I say weeks or months.  If its a woman who has had a baby I say in weeks.  Men or people who don't have kids I usually say in months.

Even though it doesn't work out perfectly, in my head 4 weeks=1 month, so 20 weeks would be 5 months.

They say you are pregnant for more than 9 months because 40 weeks is actually 9 months and 1 week.

But a lot of websites, books, etc. will tell you you are "actually pregnant for 10 months!"  Which is true, if you are counting in lunar  months.

::shrug::  I don't agree with it, I just calls it likes I sees it.  Smile

but keep in mind it's counted from the LMP, so the first 2 weeks, you're not pregnant yet
