I think I may have the beginnings of carpel tunnel - my left hand has felt tingly since 5 this morning. It's not horrible - I'm just aware of it. It feels like after you slept on it wrong and it fell asleep, all the blood rushing back gives it that tingly feeling. From what I have heard/read - that is the start.
My next appointment is on the 7th so I'll ask my doctor then what he thinks.
Re: Carpel Tunnel?
Mommy's little helper
Yep totally common during pregnancy due to pressure on the median nerve. If it were CT it would progressively get worst during the day when you use it a lot.
You can do stretching exercises to help it a little but, but really i'd worry about it after the pregnancy if it still persists. Besides wearing a brace the only way to get rid of it is for a surgeon to cut a tendon in your wrist to relieve the pressure. Sorry to be so graphic...but I watched this surgery and it was interesting, and the patient had instant relief!
I'm so sorry you have this! I've had it for months now and it sucks. I'm almost used to the numbness, but now it's starting to feel like my hands are broken.
The braces do really help -- wear them at night and when you are doing work during the day. It may not seem like they help, but they do! When I don't wear them, the pain is so much worse and I can't even bend my fingers down to my palm. If you can, get the actual medical ones from your doctor.
Also limiting your sodium intake will help (in theory, ha!) because the increased swelling puts pressure on the carpal tunnel nerve and causes the pain/numbness. My chiro is perplexed because he can't fix it. GL!
