What did you do when labor started?! :D

i have dreams of taking a bath, getting all shaved and painting my toenails and doing nails... followed by tidying up my house.

how realistic is this? LOL  :p

  • I cleaned the living room and did some dishes between contractions.  I didn't do anything really productive.  Depending on how close/painful your contractions are you would be fine to bathe and make yourself pretty, but I suggest doing the shaving/nail painting early since you will most likely not actually do them while you are in active labor.

  • I got a shower, made sure I definitely wasn't just peeing myself, then called the Dr and then woke up dh :-)

  • It all depends on how your labor starts out. My water suddenly broke at 34 weeks at 7:30am. I had hairy legs, a month old pedicure, and didn't have a hospital bag packed. Trust me though - you probably won't care what state you're in.

  • I don't find it ridiculous at all! My plan (barring anything drastic of course) is to shower, straighten my hair, and hit a drive through on the way to the hospital. Hope it works out! :)

  • I didn't KNOW labor had started, so I was woefully unprepared.

This time I'm hoping I'll be more aware that...yes, you ARE in labor...but last time I went so fast there really was no time to do anything but get to the hospital. I had just showered so I was all wet-head and no makeup. I looked TERRIBLE, but I didn't care.

I'm hoping this time around I'll at least have time to put a bit of makeup on for the pictures right after birth! LOL

  • With DS my water broke, & I didn't leave to go to the hospital until about 2 & a half hours later. I don't remember doing anything too productive, but I did take a shower & eat.

This time I am really hoping to be able to clean house during the early stages of labor. I've never experienced contractions though, so I don't know how realistic my plan is either. LOL. But I do have little things like washing whatever few dishes are in the sink, tidying up the main bathroom, & making sure the house is generally "guest appropriate" that I hope to be able to do while in the early stages of labor.

  • The only things I hope to do are shiit and shower, hopefully shaving will be done. I don't want to poo when I'm pushing so I hope to get that done before going in and a shower depending on what time of day it happens.

  • I showered, shaved, got ready and went to the hospital. We live 45 minutes away from our hospital, so I wanted to make sure I was there in plenty of time to get my epidural :)

  • I know I always thought about what I would LIKE to do, but when it happened, all that went out the window. Water broke at 230pm, contractions started to be immediately strong and about 2-3 mins apart. Called DH and told him to get home quick, call Dr and told them my water broke. Had not had a shower, luckily shaved the day before, had already eaten lunch (which I lost during labor at hosp). Baby Caroline was born at 451pm with no time for epidural.  Oh and I did Poo (TMI) during pushing, but the nurses were very nice to tell me it happens all the time. DH didnt even know, ,but I was SO embarassed.
  • You can reach your toenails to paint them?!?  Jealous!  Anyways, I'd like to make sure the house is presentable, shower, and eat.  We'll see what actually happens!
  • I plan to take a shower and play it by ear from there.

FWIW - my hospital doesn't allow nail polish on your fingers while in L&D or  OR. I guess they monitor oxygen levels via nail color.  Found this out when my friend got a manicure the day before her C and they sloppily took it off of her before the surgery.  Just a heads up...

This isn't really true. I think those nurses were being mean :)

I am an OR nurse and we can monitor your O2 level with any color nail polish on! :)

That is mean...and maybe it's just my hospital.  Not cool...not cool at all.
