Does your LO sleep w/ a blanket?

I've been putting a blanket on DD for a while now, after she's well asleep.  When I wake in the middle of the night, I go check on her (simply b/c I love looking at her and seeing what she's up to).  The blanket is always off.  She moves around alot, so I'm not sure if it's just getting taken off accidentally or if she is moving it at some point in the night b/c it's aggrivating her.

If your LO sleeps w/ a blanket, what kind of a blanket is it?  Light weight or medium weight?  And does he/she keep it on through the night?

I'm also wondering how old they typically are when they can realize they are cold and put a blanket over themselves.

Thoughts?

  • We sleeps with three of them actually.

He uses one fleece blanket as a pillow, has a second one on top of him and there's a third on at the other end of the crib. He moves around a lot too, I used to go in and put the blanket back on him before going to bed, but I woke him up once and it was awful. Not worth it.

  • no blanket here. I wish. he wants nothing near him other than his smalls security blanket (it's small).

I wish he would use a blanket, especially in the winter but he just throws it out of the crib as soon as he notices it.  Or if i put it on him while he's sleeping he'll wake up almost imminently and start freaking out.

  • DD has two blankets in her bed, but hates to be covered.  I leave them in there b/c she can cover herself, but never does.

  • DD wears a heavy fleece sleep sack and then I put a light weight blanket on her.  DH gets her in the morning and she is standing up, but when i leave her she is still covered...  If she moves out of it, i am ok, because of the sleep sack.  LOVE that she loves that thing :)

  • DD still loves her sleep sack. she's able to stand up in it fine, so it hasn't been a problem. she's still (barely) fitting into the medium. we have the large ones, but they are so long. once she outgrows the medium we'll make the switch. DD is all over the crib, so i think a regular blanket would be useless at this point.

  • we are still using the sleep sack; he loves it. It's part of his night time ritual to zip him up in it and kiss him goodnight. Lately I have been putting another little fleece blanket in there because it is getting chilly in the house at night, but that gets kicked all over the crib.

  • Yes, she has for a while now (maybe 10 months?). She mostly kicks it off but she likes to snuggle with it, use it as a pillow when she rolls away from her real pillow, etc. It's a pretty heavy quilt. I figure she won't learn how to sleep with a blanket if you don't expose her to it. I make sure to dress her for the temp of the house without a blanket in case it doesn't get used.

  • My LO is 19 months and never keeps a blanket on.  I always cover her at bedtime and it's only a matter of seconds before it is stripped away.  I just dress her in warm PJs if it's cool.  From reading all the replies here, I'm guessing this is normal:)
  • My DD does, but I think it is more for comfort. Most mornings when I get her it is bundled up under her. When we put her down she is on her back and we cover her, but by morning she is sleeping on her belly with her butt in the air on top of the blanket.

  • DS has always slept with a blanket.  Surprise

Now he sleeps with 2 - one is light weight and his lovey (Aden & Anais blanket), the other is a warmer soft blanket that goes over him once I lay him down.  DH checks on him around 5:30am and he's uncovered so he covers him back up.

Not sure what age they know to cover themselves back up?

  • Curly does, but it's never for warmth.  He stuffs it in his mouth and chews on it to soothe himself to sleep, lol.  Occasionally I'll cover him with it in the night if it's cold, but it's always off by morning.  He sleeps solidly, so I don't worry about him being cold.  I figure he'd be awake if he was uncomfortable.
