I'm starting leave a day early because our house was broken into last night. Instead of having a relaxing final few days, doing last minute things before the baby arrives, we're putting our house back together.
Not much was stolen (jewelry -including irreplaceable pieces from my grandmother- and cash), but our house has been trashed. The door was kicked in. Our bed was thrown across our bedroom and destroyed. Clothes were flung everywhere. Desk/dresser/filing cabinet drawers were pulled open and emptied on to the floor. The cops think it was some druggie on foot supporting a habit, since nothing big was taken. My laptop and digital camera were sitting out in plain site but weren't touched.
I know we're lucky more wasn't taken, but I'm so creeped out knowing some stranger was going through our things. I'm frantically washing every square inch of the house. My sister and her bf are visiting and have been a huge help picking up the pieces. I was so nervous that I was going to go into labor last night (even the cop was convinced). I hope I get everything cleaned before LO arrives. His room was picked through but not destroyed like our bedroom. I'm re-washing all of his clothes and sheets.
Ok vent over...back to laundry I go. Hope you ladies have better start to the day!
Re: Not the way I wanted to start maternity leave... (vent)
Oh no, I am so sorry you are dealing with this!!! Being broken into is the worst feeling. Our old apartment was broken into 4 years ago, I still remember the date - December 8. Oddly enough the date DH is convinced LO is going to arrive, and my Dad's birthday.
Good luck putting everything back together, what an awful thing to have to deal with right now. I'm glad you have some extra hands there to help!!
That's so terrible! I'm so sorry. You're right, the worst part is just imagining someone in your house, not really the things that were taken. I'm so sorry you have to stress about this now...
If I were you, I would leave it to family and friends to put back together while you take in a movie.

This.
It was such a horrible feeling knowing someone was going through your personal belongings and I don't wish that on anyone. Hopefully this douche gets what he deserves! *HUGS*
The cop is probably right, though. When we sell our house, we'll probably have to get rid of our german shepherd (cause we'll be living in town with a MUCH smaller yard, most likely and I don't think she would adapt well after country living), but as much of a PITA that she is, she does make me feel secure. You're not getting in the driveway, much less up the sidewalk/near the house without me at least knowing about it. She's pretty intimidating.
I'm so sorry. Having your house broken into is really awful, aside from the physical items being taken it's just very unsettling.
You mentioned a dog or a security system. Here's what you need....sounds like a scary dog without having to clean up more poop.

Oh my God, I am SICK for you. What a pain to have to deal with that... especially right now.
I know you're thankful that it wasn't worse and that no one got hurt or anything, but it still is probably the MOST rant-worthy post I've ever read!
