I was told the gender at 12 weeks---should I trust them?

Today was my first NT ultrasound. The tech and the doctor both told me they thought I was having a boy. I was very excited at first but now am getting sort of skeptical; I know that most people don't find out for sure until 19-20 weeks. The tech also told me that would be when we would know for sure, since what she told me she was not 100% sure about.

I've heard so many stories of women who were told they were having a boy and had a girl instead. I know about the "angle of the dangle" but unfortunately she couldn't catch a picture of the baby flat on its back to see any angle of the baby's parts. She predicted it off of when the baby moved and we got what was essentially a crotch shot! It looked like a little boy to me, but I know little girls at this point can look like little boys since they're not fully developed yet.

Anyway all this to say--what do you girls think? Should I trust the tech and the doctor? I am in such suspense!

I would take it with a grain of salt, youll know for sure in 6 weeks .. .

I think some very experienced techs can make educated guesses, but of course, they will never say they are 100% sure that early on. With DD they guessed girl at the NT scan and sure enough, she was.

I think that's way too early. There is a site that used to be posted on here where you could see a pic of a male and female at 12 weeks and the privates looked the same. Hang in there until your next u/s just to be sure!

I'd take it with a grain of salt; however, at 14 weeks the u/s tech said "boy" and she was correct.

I found out at 12 weeks that DS was a boy. At my 20 week ultrasound it was confirmed, he was very much a boy. Take it how you want but regardless of what some may post on here, it can be determined that early.

I wouldnt trust it.

I have a good friend who was told at 14 weeks they could see the "frank and beans" only to be told a few weeks later that it was a girl. She had she baby last week, definitley no frank and beans there.

If they say boy then they may be right. We asked my ob a few weeks ago, and she said at 12-13 weeks if it's a boy, then they can usually tell because they see the boy parts. I know a few people who were told boy at 12/13 weeks and their LO's turned out to be boys.

I wouldn't fully trust it, no. A girl can look very much like a boy at 12 weeks.

Our tech gave us her "best guess" at 12 weeks that it was a boy, and DH agreed with her (he's a doctor but I'm thinking it was some wishful thinking too haha). But they were both right! It's hit or miss though I think.

I had a friend that was told she was having a boy, she went out and bought some boy clothes (not much) But a few weeks later they were guessing it was a girl.

My doc warned us that at the week 12 ultrasound he plays a game call predict the baby... he tell you what he thinks it is with a %age of accuracy. Depending on how accurate, I would take it with a grain of salt and not paint everything blue yet

My friend saw at 15 weeks it was a boy. It's possible, but I'd not paint anything blue until after your anatomy scan

It's possible. I've read (and have been told) that little boys' junk is developed by week 11, but I certainly agree with PPs - don't go specifying your nursery just yet.
