Yep, right there with you. LOVE our mat leave.

Should just mention for others reading though, that the gov't gives us 55% of our wages and most employers top that up by an additional amount - some even to 100%.

This. It sux!  A full paid year would be wonderful!

  • WOW! Lucky! My work follows the FMLA guidlines of 12 weeks. I'm part time so I don't get paid from my work but I do have Aflac short term disability that will pay $100 a week for 8 weeks (8 for c-section, 6 for vaginal but I will have to have another c-section) I only got to take 6 weeks with my DD because I didn't have the Aflac and it's all we could afford. I'm HOPING that we will be able to save enough this time around for me to take the full 12 weeks though, unless I can talk DH into moving to Ontario lol

Same here. Sucks to not get anything if vacation and sick time are used up, which they probably would be because of Dr. Appts

This, but what sucks is that DH and I work for the same company and are only afforded a TOTAL of 12 weeks. We still haven't decided how we are going to split it up yet.

  • I do qualify for FMLA and I will be taking a full 12 weeks off.

My company does offer 6 weeks paid at 100% and another 6 weeks at 60% (ST disability).

  • I get my one year at 55% and my company doesn't top anything off.  Although if my husband takes leave, his company will top it off to 90% for 6 weeks.

  • FMLA is 12 weeks, and I plan on taking it in full. My company will give me 100% of my pay for 8 weeks, and I will use vacation for the remaining 4 weeks.

  • We have to use sick leave, and for a normal vaginal birth we get 6 weeks, for C-section we get 8 weeks....doesn't seem like very much time.

  • I wish mine was as good as that!

I get 6 weeks for vag delivery and 8 for c-section paid at 80% and then an optional 12 weeks unpaid.

I think this is what I should get; however, my work does not seem to recognize FMLA even though I am pretty sure we meet all the requirements.

I get ST disability for 6 weeks (vaginal delivery or 8 weeks for a C-section) and then I will take 2 weeks of vacation.

  • Wow, a whole year would be awesome!  I get 6 weeks of sick leave (longer if c-section) and I have 8 weeks of vacation leave I can also take.  I think we can also take up to 6 months of unpaid leave.

  • Um, I think I'm moving to Canada!  An entire year? Wow.

I'm planning on being a SAHM once we have a baby.  It's something I've always wanted to do and DH supports the idea. Plus, I'm a CNA at a nursing home, day care would probably take up my entire paycheck.

  • We get the 12 weeks of FMLA but it all comes from vacation and sick time.  I have 10 weeks in the bank so far so I am really hoping that I can bank enough for all 12 weeks.  I am worried that dr. appts will take time away.  DH has informed me that he will be taking off at least a month with pay so it will be really nice to have all of us at home for the first month.  The good news is that daycare is in my office building and I was informed that my office is relocating to the hallway right beside the center.  I can spend luch and breaks with the baby.

  • I don't get any unpaid maternity leave or sick time. I will take my one-two weeks (depending on how long it takes to get PG) of vacation time paid, but beyond that I will take the FMLA of twelve weeks, unpaid.

This. In my current position, my employer tops up to 100%  for 20 weeks. So that equates to 20 weeks of maternity leave at my full salary. It's too bad I hate my job and want to leave.

True 'dat! I get 93% for 12 (or is it 16??) weeks, then 55% for the remainder. Our union kind of rocks!

No, I should have specified that 3 weeks is the standard, but on your 5th year you get 5 weeks. It's like an anniversary gift from the company. Then you go back down to 3. I think at 10 years you get 6 weeks, and then starting at 11 years you get 4 weeks each year. Anniversary years go up from there.

So I get 3 weeks now, next year I will get 5 weeks (since it's my 5th year) and in '12 I will go back down to 3 weeks.

  • I'm a SAHW/sell paintings online, so I don't have to worry about it, but we're not positive on DH's paternity leave. We're pretty sure it's minimal to non-existent though (paid anyways). Luckily, DH's boss is super flexible with timing, so he'll probably take minimal full paternity leave but work a lot of 1/2 days. Plus, I'm sure my mom will swoop in for like a month... so he wont NEED to be there 24/7.
  • No paid maternity leave or sick time.

There's also only 3 of us that are true employees, rest are "independent contractors" so from my understanding FMLA doesn't apply (must have 50+ employees)   :(

I'll probably take a week or so totally off but otherwise will most likely be working almost immediately w/ a combination of baby in tow at the office when I HAVE to be there or working from home for as long as it can work it out that way.
