Infertility

Where do you get your flu shots?

I've never gotten a flu shot in the past and really, really don't want to this year but with IVF right around the corner, our RE strongly recommended that both DH and I get one. D@mn.

I know we could go to our family doctor..but we don't have one here. Neither of us have really been sick since moving to Alabama (aside from the IF stuff, I was hospitalized for my gall bladder but just went to the ER for that) and for any small stuff we've been able to use the athletic teams' doctor/clinic here on campus.

I also know you can get one at like Walgreens..? Anyone went that route?

I'm pretty sure we can get ours through the athletic department medical clinic/doctor here on campus but in case we can't...

Thanks!

  • I work for a college too and got one at he health center. But I know of a few ppl who have gotten theirs at Walgreens. They said it was pretty easy.

  • I got mine this year @ CVS.  It's not as sketchy as it sounds, they either have the pharmacist or nurse practitioner (if there's a MinuteClinic) do it.  I've never actually gone the dr. for one (they have free ones @ work), since there are pretty strict requirements for how they are distributed/administered.  GL!

  • I got mine at Walgreens by a NP.  Funny thing, I thought she was too slow injecting the vaccine.  I am so used to shots by now and I just wanted it over with.

BTW, the flu shot makes my upper arm ache for a couple of days.

    Good luck!

  • My office building brings in NPs to give flu shots so that's what I did this year.

In past years I've gone to Minute Clinic or Target's clinic.

Good luck and hope you stay flu-free this year!

I suppose we could use the regular clinic on campus, too. Haven't checked into that...we've only used the clinic and doctor that works exclusively with the athletic teams.

  • I usually wait until the university offers their free flu shots, but when DH got swine flu last year I got one at our local urgicare/medical center. I know Target offers them as well as CVS. My parents have gotten theirs there before.

  • DH & I got ours at Walgreens this year.  It was really simple, just keep in mind that you have to wait for the pharmacist, so if they're really busy it can be up to a 20-minute wait.  I think I waited 5-minutes & DH said he waited about the same, but they did warn me it could be awhile.

  • I got mine at Duane Reade- no wait and they had the preservative free ones!  MH got his at his PCP, but that was just because he had a sinus infection and was there anyway getting antibiotics.

  • The NYC DOH, or my PCP who gave me a preservative-free one this year. No copay either. Love her.
