sewing machine recommendations

I'm not sure if I can get help on here, but I figured there was a high chance I could. I'm looking for a sewing machine and have heard that they're not made the same as they were years ago. Does anyone have any recommendations for me? I'm not sure what brand/model is best. Thanks!

I got this machine a month or two ago. I haven't had a whole lot of chance to use it yet, but it seems decent so far. I have had some problems trying to adjust the tension (or troubleshooting why my top thread is loose.) I also had a little trouble making some upcycled longies, but in all honesty, the sweater I was using was very bulky, so that may have contributed to the bobbin thread jamming, and the needle bending. So those are my complaints so far, but other than that I have been very happy. I got the best price on Amazon.

I have had that machine since May and I am very pleased. I have used it a lot- denim, quilt making you name it- it has been great. I highly recommend it.

I'm a Singer gal. My first machine that I learned on was a Singer Prelude (very basic, good for a first machine), and now I have a Singer Brilliance that I got at Costco. Love them both!

My two recommendations are to look at overstock.com (they have GREAT prices on decent machines, and super cheap shipping) and to recommend getting a Janome sewing machine. I got a new one about a year ago and after doing a TON of research found that Janomes were the best balance of great reviews and reasonable prices. I got mine for $90 on overstock and it has held up INCREDIBLY well to a lot of hard use! Good luck!
