If your baby is in position........

Do you feel more activity up high now? Like limbs in the way?

Saturday I think I overdid it. I was puttering around all day, not heavy stuff but I was on my feet all day. Laundry, folding baby clothes, organizing the nursery etc. Then DH and I went shopping at the mall. Somewhere in between my belly tightened up really hard (more than in the past) and my lower abdomen was sore and crampy. It was hard to walk around the mall. And I am pretty sure I had 2 contractions in the car on the way home. Painful - not BH - they were 10 minutes apart.

Anyways, Vincent was moving around alot during all this, and now I am so much more uncomfortable. When I sit down or god forbid (try to) bend over,  I feel limbs in the way. I am assuming these are legs under my ribs now causing discomfort and restricted mobility.

I have a little more pressure in my pelivic area, but not a lot. I still look like im carrying up high still, that hasnt changed.

Im seeing the OB Thursday but Im curious - do you think dropped? Was that what all that was all about?

Re: If your baby is in position........

  • I am curious about this as well. I don't know when most typically drop or if there even is a "most common" time. I've been experiencing lots of kicks to my ribs and sometimes I cannot even bend over because it's so painful in my ribcage. As far as the contractions, I am the same way as you. When I walk around or stand for periods of time I am miserable, stomach is rock hard and majorly uncomfortable. My new thing is at night, it's been going on for a couple of weeks now where I feel like I have so much pressure down below. I will wake up in the middle of the night in pain from it. Not much help to your situation, but atleast you can know you're not alone! LOL.

  • Nope, I don't feel like this. However, my LO is really low in my pelvis so I feel most kicks a little around my belly button and above, but not as high as my ribs. With DS, he was higher until much later in my pregnancy and I seriously thought he was going to break a rib at times.

In terms of your symptoms, you probably just overdid it. 2 contractions in an hour is pretty normal. Also, he probably has just moved into a position that is more uncomfortable for you. If you're still feeling movement high, that doesnt sound like dropping. When baby drops, you'll feel less pressure around your ribs and more pressure in your pelvis/more frequent urination.

  • My LO is frank breech, so all the kicks are down low while the rest of him is up high by my rib cage. People have been telling me I look like I dropped, but there's not way since I'm feeling nothing but baby way above my pelvic bone.

I can't even bend to pet my cat, but I still manage to bend at the knees (more like a squatting position) to do laundry and pick up stuff. I find if I do too much, then I'm really uncomfortable and feel pressure with some cramping. That's probably what happened with you.

I have more trouble getting out of bed than anything else. I have to roll over and get up very carefully before easing myself out of bed. I have an old lower back injury that makes it nearly impossble to get up when I'm flat on my back due to the pain. I liken myself to a poor turtle stuck on the back of its shell.

This is what I'm confused about. I feel a lot of pressure in my pelvis and and going to the restroom 10x more lately. I used to only go once during the night and sometimes not at all - now I wake up 2 or 3 times a night having to go. But at the same time I am feeling her kick my ribs. Really odd.

  • Thanks. Sounds like I had a few things going on. Mostly It feels like I swallowed 2 giant chicken bones and they have both lodged themselves below each of my boobs.  Thats the best way I can describe it.

The tightening belly thing I have been having for at least a month but its so much worse now. yuck!

  • When I have contractions, they feel exactly as you described.  Even though they were painful, I would still call them BH's since they weren't true "Labor" contractions.  They're designed to push baby down into the pelvis so when he's already got himself pressed down in there, it's not fun when a contraction comes along!  Make sure when you're busy like that, that you're drinking lots of water!
