NBR. Gift Suggestions Needed.

My FIL is so hard to shop for!  Everytime we ask what he needs/wants to C-mas, he says that he doesn't want anything and for us not to get anything.

It's not an option to not give him anything.  We always want to give him a gift, but he's always the last one we cross off our list b/c it's near impossible to find something for him.

He truly is someone who wants or needs for nothing.  He isn't into luxury stuff either.  He's very outdoorsy and a handyman.  We've already gotten him a pair of work gloves (weren't expensive) and we need another gift for him.

 Any ideas?

  • Gift card to Lowes, Home Depot, Bass Pro Shops?

My dad's the same way, and for that reason, he's gotten way too many gift cards! But I figure it's better than nothing. Smile

  • My dad is the same way!  We do a lot of gift cards, but we've also been in a trend of buying a flashlight for him every year with batteries.  Sounds odd, but he ALWAYS loses flashlights, so we just replenish it every year.

  • My FIL is the same way, and he is a total outdoorsman.  He LOVES woodworking and we got him a subscription to some magazine that has different designs/ideas/plans for wood projects.  We also do gift cards and DH asks MIL what tools he might need or if he has mentioned anything about new projects.
  • If he does outdoorsy stuff in the winter, you could get him a tobaggan, wool socks, or fleece lined jeans (LL Bean and Eddie Bauer should have).

  • What about a gerber or leatherman?  Its a multi-tool you wear on your belt or carry in your pocket:

My Grandfather has one he keeps in his pocket all the time.

forgot to add that his is fairly small--about the size of a pocket knife, so its convenient to carry.

  • Would he like a donation in his honor to a charity?  You could pick one that is near and dear to his heart.  One of my favorites is Heifer International since who wouldn't want a flock of chicks, a water buffalo or a trio of rabbits?  They have a great range of prices and then at least your know your gift is doing some good. Here's the website.
  • Thanks, everyone!  Those are awesome suggestions.  I am a gift card person myself and if it were up to me, that's probably what he'd get every year.  But DH can't stand giving gift cards, so every year.....we enter this dilemma on what to get his dad!  LOL.  I'm using your suggestions for sure.
