No TV PSA

C is obsessed with looking at the TV every time it's on.   It's like a magnet--he stands right in front of it and just watches everything.

So over the weekend, DH routed the audio and now I can turn off the TV itself, but still hear it through the stereo.   He now ignores it, which is awesome!  I can still get my morning news fix without trying to keep him away from it.

Now if he'd just stop changing the channels on me.... stupid remote.

Re: No TV PSA

  • Do you have a remote that does not go with anything?  See if you could trade him the tv remote for the non-working remote.

  • How clever!  I didn't know you could do that with a TV.  We're lucky that S doesn't seem attracted to TV as of yet, but we know our time is coming.

She loves buttons, so we gave her an old broken remote that looks like the one for the TV and she loves it.  Maybe you could give him another remote?

  • I got hooked on NPR when I had a long commute to work each day so I can just turn on the radio in the morning.

But I agree with being attracted to the tv.  When Matt sees a television on he just stares at it slack-jawed and expressionless.

  • confession: i've never wanted sabrina to get sucked into TV the way i am and since our time is so limited (i work FT, she's in daycare FT), she's never watched TV. ever. she has no clue who elmo or barney or whatever is. well, this weekend i actually had the TV on and put it on Sprout (seems preschool kid friendly?) in the hopes that she might chill out for 20 minutes (she's walking to the point where i have to constantly be on top of what she's doing). no such luck. she just has no interest in the TV.

  • Maddie just stops what she is doing for any commercial with dogs/puppies and sometimes kitties in it then she goes back to whatever she was doing.

  • We don't have it on much during the day, so Ellie is entranced when she sees it at our place or one of the grandma's.  I will say that plopping down in front of spongebob or whatever distracts her enough that I can trim her nails without any crying or angst!!
  • Sarah has never watched TV. We don't watch anything else but movies and also instructed our Au Pair not to have the TV on for her. Whenever we get to a place where a TV is on, she is mesmorized.
