Eco-Friendly Family

moms of 2+

When do you get out of survival mode?

DD is 5 weeks old and I feel like more days than not, we're not doing much more than surviving.  Don't get me wrong- I love our family of 4- I just feel that between growth spurts/marathon nursing and DS constantly testing boundaries and loving his sister too much during naptimes, I lose my patience so quickly some times.

Ugh- and I've had family to help me up to now- tomorrow is my first full day alone with both kiddos and I'm more than a little scared.

Re: moms of 2+

  • It was when dd was about 2 months old, I started to feel like we had a routine and I really knew what I was doing. My first day wasnt nearly as bad as I thought it would be so hopefully yours isnt either! GL!

  • It took a while. We're just now getting our routine down and making regular outings to places like the library, etc. I think it all has to do with the starts of a little predictability with the baby's naps and feedings. Once she started to get a little bit of a routine it helped a lot. And I do want to sympathize with you on the toddler testing you. Oh my gosh that sends me over the edge some days but it does get better.
  • After colic and before the 4 month wakeful we were golden. Then C got his first tooth. Then 6 month growth spurt. Now we're stuck in the house, they're both teething & we're back to merely surviving. =( It goes in spurts it seems.

  • at 6 months, I still feel like we're in survival mode. I'm able to do some outings, but it's limited. And NOTHING gets done around the house- oh, and one on one time with T- bedtime when I read a book- if dh is home. I'm hoping it changes a bit soon!!

Good luck and hang in there!  I know where you're at with all this!

  • I agree with PP that it goes in spurts and most depends on DS#2 and how well he's doing with naps, teething, etc.  His naps started getting more consistent at 9 months.  DS#1 doesn't really nap anymore so now that DS#2 is taking nice long naps, I can get stuff done during his naps and also try to make a point to spend time during then with DS#1.  It's also helped to establish more of a routine.  I have someone that helps comes clean every other week and that is a huge sanity saver for me because I don't do well with a dirty house.

  • We had a good run from 2-3mos. lol  Now we're in the middle of the 3mos growth spurt and L is taking it hard.  S is all Christmas psycho and we're back in survival mode.  I'm sure we'll get our feet under us just in time to hit the 4mo wakeful.

  • if nothing else, I'm glad I'm i n good company lol

DS hasn't napped in 2 months, so my dreams of productive naptimes are ou the window.  I did hire a housekeeper a month ago to at least do the deep cleaning that won't get done otherwise.

I have to get to the store today and I really really want to shower- wish me luck!
