You know those movies that everyone says are amazing but you just can't get on board with?
For me, it's "Blues Brothers". I hated that movie, but I've literally never encountered anyone other than myself who didn't love it.
For Christmas movies - I find "A Christmas Story" seriously annoying. I also don't get why people love "Scrooged" so much.
How about you ladies?
Re: what "classic movies" do you just not get?
DD (5 years old) from IUI in 2012
TTC 3rd and final!: IUI #1 in progress!
I'm with you on 'A Christmas Story'.
Also, I don't know if it's considered a classic, but I really don't get 'Avatar'. DH and I turned it off about half an hour in. It was sooo boring!
I hate a Christmas Story! Why do they think we want to watch it for 24 hours straight on Christmas eve? It's a terrible movie!
One classic 80s movie I don't get is Pretty in Pink. Not a good movie in my mind! I'm sure there are more, but I'm sure there are some I love that other people don't...like The Labrynth! My husband doesn't get why I love that show!
Well "A Christmas Carol" (Charles Dickens) is one of my favorties no matter which version I watch. As far as Christmas movies go, i don't see the big draw to things like "Its a Wonderful Life" (I think thats the name).
As for regular movies, people think I am crazy when I tell them that i absolutely cannot stand Star Wars. They especially give me grief when I tell them that my furbaby's names are Chewy (Chewbacca) & Wookie (What type of critter Chewbacca is). I don't like Lord of the Rings or anything like that either.
I'm from Chicago so I get and love Blues Brothers.
But with me, a classic I never liked - Gone with the Wind. Just never liked it at all.
OMG yes, me too! I can't for the life of me understand what people love about it. I saw it for the first time maybe 2 yrs ago and absolutely hated it.

Not "classics", but I find pretty much anything with Vince Vaughn in it to be highly irritating. Wedding Crashers, Old School, Swingers, etc.
Speaking of Christmas movies, I never understood what made "It's a Wonderful Life" such a tearjerker. My stepdad would cry every time he watched it.
The original Miracle on 34th St is a great movie IMO though
You stole the words right out of my mouth!
Everyone just kept raving about how great Pulp Fiction was, and built it up. When I finally saw it, I was so unimpressed. That's it? Not as funny or as interesting as advertised. I could say the same about any of the Quention Tarantino films, but this one is the most startling example.
Because the dialogue is freakin' brilliant. That's what a Tarantino film is. Brilliant dialogue. Look at Inglorious Basterds. When Harry Met Sally is the same way. Subtle but amazing dialogue that you memorize and say along with when you re-watch the movie.
I am that weirdo who doesn't like Dirty Dancing, and never have. I watched it for the first time at 13, and didn't like it then. Why on earth is there an abortion subplot? Who in their right mind would go by 'Baby'? It just never made any sense to me.
Recently on movie posts here on the board, several people were saying how much they love Love Actually. I thought it looked so cute and had never seen it before, so I watched it last Christmas-and I couldn't believe how bad it was. lol. I thought Bill Nighy was hilarious as the aging rock star, but most of the plots were some of the most depressing 'Christmas' stories I'd ever seen. There is nothing uplifting about a guy being in love with his best friend's wife. That's awful, not sweet! lol.
Watch out...the 3rd "Godfather" is a stinker.
