I told DS the other day, just to see his reaction---very simple and short, 'mommy has a baby growing in her belly and someday it will get big and be a part of our family' type deal. And his reaction was 'maybe it will play PLAY DOH with us when it comes out!!!'..... I had to laugh. And now, at least once a day, he'll point at me and ask 'has that baby growed yet???'
So, when are you telling your toddler about the baby? I think I jumped the gun a smidge! It's a gonna be a long 5 months.....
Re: If you have a toddler - when are you telling them??
I talk to DD about it all the time, but she doesn't really understand yet. She is so good with babies!
Every time I point to my belly and tell her theirs a baby in there she hugs me and kisses my belly and says "Awe, bebe"
My daughter is 2.5, and I think she understands fairly well that she will be a big sister, we will have a baby, there's a baby in mommy's tummy, etc.
My MIL told her first, actually, without asking me. I was waiting just to make sure everything was viable before we told her, plus I figured there wasn't much rush. But it's amazing to me how much she picks up about what is happening. She loves babies and knows now to be gentle ... I hope it translates when the baby is in HER house.

DS is 2.5, and we haven't told him yet. He knows that I've been really, really sick, and we didn't want him to associate the baby with me feeling badly. I'm starting to have a few good days here and there, so we will probably tell him soon.
We are some of those crazy-selfish-indulgent people who are having a few friends and family over to find out the gender with us, and we will have a special big brother cake for DS, so he'll certainly find out before then.
Though now she keeps asking when the baby will be here and we just say hopefully not until months after her birthday!
