Trying to Get Pregnant

Your thoughts are appreciated re: the pill

So I stopped taking the pill the middle of September. Had my last "on-the pill-period" immediately after.

On October 27th (28 days like clockwork) I got my first off-the-pill period. Very normal to what I remember it being like before the pill.

DH and I DTD on 11/7 and 11/20. On 11/21 I had HUGE amounts of EWCM. The next two days I peed like crazy and had ovulation pains. Since that time I have had sore BBs, back pain and felt nauseous once or twice.

I should have been due AF on 11/24. Still nothing.   I took a test yesterday and got a BFN.

What the heck?? Is this the after-effects of the pill still messing me up? Even though I had one regular period already? Or did I just test too early? I went by the "missed period" rather than the "days after ovulation".

Any thoughts are much appreciated. Thanks!

  • My guess is that yes, you are still adjusting to coming off the pill.  You may have O'd late or not at all this cycle.

I'd test once a week until you hit CD 60.  If you get to CD 60 with no + HPT then call your doc.

    Until then, read this:

  • are you charting? you may not have ovulated, or you may have ovulated late therefore you are not "late" yet. Your body can take some time to come off BP sometimes. also, your symptoms that you are talking about would not be pregnancy symptoms 2 days after sex. there wouldn't have been implantation yet, therefore not pregnancy yet. sometimes we just feel these things and our minds wonder. Keep taking a test x 1 a week until you get a + or your period shows. If you are not pregnant read taking charge of your fertility and look at fertility friend.com (click on my candy cane link below) and learn how to chart to know what your body is doing Good luck to you!

    Yes

If you were KU, sypmtoms wouldn't start the day or 2 after having conceived...it'd be a couple of weeks or more. GL.

  • Don't worry too much just yet.  It can take many months for your body to regulate itself after coming off BCP.  There's a lot of info in the newbie link at the top of the board too.

If you aren't charting (I highly recommend it, click my ticker to sign up!), you don't for sure know if/when you O'ed.  You might have just O'ed late, so AF isn't really late, just delayed.  Or maybe you haven't O'ed yet at all.  There's no way to know unless you're charting with your temperatures.  I'd also recommend getting a copy of TCOYF and reading up if this isn't your cycle.

GL!  Keep testing EOD/as you feel comfortable.  Anytime after 12-14DOI should give you a half-decent result.  And if AF doesn't come by CD60, call your doctor.

  • Also, if your screenname is your full name you may want to change that...like ASAP.  Not only do I have your full name but I also have the city and town in which you live.  While the ladies on this board are great...you have no idea who is lurking and some ladies have had some awful stuff happen to them by having too much info out there.

  • Thanks so much to everyone. That was super quick!

I appreciate all the thoughts about charting. I will definitely look into it. We haven't really started trying yet because my Dr. said it would probably take 3 months after coming off of the pill. I was just kind of shocked that I had one normal cycle and then it seems like it's screwed up.

Just frustrating, I guess. We would be thrilled with a + test, but at the same time aren't super hopeful because we weren't actively trying. I just hate being in limbo!

I am changing my screen name right this minute. KDG I appreciate that more than you know!

    Thanks for being kind!

  • It took me two months to become "regular" after coming off the pill. I had the same experience as you and took many tests all BFN. I'm still not normal, cycles vary between 28-34 days, but I have a better handle on signs thanks to charting.

    Hang in there!

  • You don't want to go by when you are expecting your period based on last cycle, since it seems like this cycle will be much longer.  Go by your days post ovulation instead, which would mean it is much too early to get a positive test right now.  It's normal for cycles to be wonky after stopping BCP.  GL!

I agree with KDG.  I had a "normal" 30 day cycle the first cycle off of the pill and then my next 3 cycles have/will be around 40 days.  You probably ovulated late and your body is getting used to coming off of the pill.

  • I can't add much more than what the very knowledgable ladies above have already said, but I just wanted to commisterate with you.  Lots of ladies have wonky cycles after coming off of BCP.  Check out Fertility Friend and Taking Charge of Your Fertility for charting info.  good luck!

You sound like me just over a month ago.  I came off BCP at the end of July, had a "normal" period, and then my next cycle was wayyy longer than I expected.  I spent about 2 weeks peeing on everything in sight and waiting for my period, more than a little freaked out.

This cycle I've been charting and it's given me SO MUCH peace of mind!  Even though I'm still figuring some stuff out, and my chart doesn't always make 100% sense to me, at least I'm not getting my hopes of thinking I'm pregnant when I really just have a long cycle.  I HIGHLY recommend charting.

    Good luck!

  • I went off of the pill in July, had my hormone induced period in July, and then had a regular period about 30 days later in August. I was pretty psyched that, hey, it regulated itself right away. Unfortunately, I was wrong, and my body is (I'm guessing) still adjusting to coming off of the pill, as today is CD 100.

The Pill can do some really crazy things to your body once you stop it. It sucks, but hopefully yours will regulate itself sooner rather than later. GL to you.
