Granted, I am weeks behind most of you so maybe that is the difference but its starting to make me feel pretty bad.
Anyone else out there feel the same way?
For those of you who have started shopping, when did you start and what pushed you to begin?
Re: No desire to buy baby stuff yet..
I started at about 12 weeks and bought a couple gender neutral onsies. Now our stroller was on sale for $100 off so we bought it too (at 14.5 weeks). Now that the stroller is in the baby's room, I'm getting the urge to get it completely cleaned out (which involves cleaning the storage room in the basement). I think I just feel like buying stuff and preparing makes it more real- I also feel slightly overwhelmed with all the big stuff I need to buy (crib, dresser, change pad) the showers that our families will throw, and just want to get a bit of a head start.
There's nothing wrong with you not wanting to shop yet- at some point you'll just start- you have lots of time (so do I- I know, I'm just hyper).
I started just after I found out, but I think I'm on the younger side of people in this forum (22) and my fiance's in school still so I feel like I need to start preparing early. ( I started shopping at 7 weeks
)
That being said, I've only spent $75 and I have - crib, change table, high chair, awesome baby swing, baby monitor (www.craigslist.com) (www.kijiji.ca - canada)
From those I got the crib free and everything else cheap - I also got a really nice high chair for free (found on side of street in my area - and I live in a REALLY nice area).
I just didn't want to get to 6/7 months and freak out about it all while huge
Be careful - check for recalls!

Thanks! I space out and forget to think of that stuff! On it
I started getting small things shortly after finding out. With DH being active duty Army money isn't over flowing so buying things early and spacing them out is the best option for us. We will have a shower and I know that will help a lot, but I don't want to depend on that solely only to have to drop several thousand right before baby.
Our parents have also bought some of our big items for Christmas which has been awesome!
I think it just depends on the person. After wanting a baby for 4 years, I couldn't contain myself!
Especially check the crib for recalls as most drop side cribs have been recalled and Canada is going to ban them.
I've been doing online & in-store price, quality, & ratings comparisons for a couple of weeks. We finally pulled the trigger on our first purchase (nursery furniture) yesterday. Honestly, the one "event" that made me start getting really excited was someone else on here posting that they bought their nursery furniture, and they posted a link. I followed that link into the great wide open of nursery furniture, and there was no pulling me back :-)
We won't know the gender for a few more weeks, so there are lots of things that I am not really even looking at yet (clothes, bedding, etc..). I've started to compare strollers, car seats, and other gear, but I will not buy much right away since our moms and my sister have asked us to save a few bigger items for them to purchase. I kind of feel like I'm probably done buying baby things until after Christmas (but I'll still shop around & start a 'wish list' of sorts..)
I have started looking. Cribs, strollers, carseats, etc. But so far no buys. I think that I want to find out the gender first before I start. I know that most items are gender neutral but I feel like once I know I will be a more focused shopper. I also have been freaking out about buying any big stuff because there are just so so many choices and I want to make sure I get something I like and that is safe for my baby. As I've posted before I'm kinda freaked out about the whole thing.
Once I finish my semester at school and only have work to focus on then I figure I will have more time to do my research on items.
I just bought my first couple of things this week... in the end what broke my willpower was discovering the "bargain of the day" websites. I bought a "for mom" mystery pack (which I suppose isn't technically baby stuff), and then yesterday I bought 3 AIO cloth diapers because they were on for $13.
Next week we're buying the crib because I'll be somewhere with an IKEA (the closest one is a 6 hour drive away and I'm going for work).
I'm really trying to hold back, as I'm sure people will buy me stuff at my shower and my brother has a 3 year old and a 1 year old and I think they're done having kids - I'd hate to buy something big like an infant seat only to have him offer me theirs. The only thing I'm totally on the hunt for is bargains on cloth diapers.

Kerr, I bought the crib and change table early (around 12 weeks) because there was a huge sale. Other than that, I've not bought a single thing.
I just registered this week (mostly online because doing it in-store is overwhelming) after having the anatomy scan.
You're doing fine. No rush!!
I've been doing this, too. I have been watching for price drops/sales, and the travel crib I wanted is now marked down for $100 off. Considering it is usually too expensive for us to afford, I jumped on it. Other than that I want to wait to see what I get as gifts and we will be getting a lot of used items from a friend and family.
I also need to drag my husband into the store to get his opinion and have him try out strollers. He's 6'4" and I need to make sure he's comfortable pushing whatever stroller we get.
If people here would just STOP posting links to awesome deals! lol
I got the free sevenslings sling, and an uddercover because they were posted here and they were so cheap. Then on Thanksgiving, someone posted a link to an entire nursery set for 250$ (and it has a crib that converts to a toddler bed and full bed) and it was so similar to one that I was looking at for my future registry.....I had to buy it
FI's mom is already going nuts buying clothes and little onsies....
I have only purchased a crib and a small plasma for the baby's room. TV sounds indulgent, I know, but a friend told us about all the time she and her DH spent in there. She said it was nice every now and then to have something to do while BF'ing or rocking LO while he wouldn't fall asleep.
What pushed me to move were the sales - otherwise I would still have nothing. Couldn't pass up Black Friday sales.

With DS, we bought the crib and dresser when I was about 24 weeks. It went on sale and I had heard stories about nursery furniture taking 12-16 weeks to come in! Well the furniture was in stock so we got it that day!
Otherwise, I didn't buy anything until after my showers, 30 and 33 weeks. Once we sorted through everything, I was down to small things to buy.
So hold off until after your showers!!
With this one, I need to start sorting through what we have and what we still need. I don't think I am getting a shower with this one. But since I already have the big stuff, I am not shopping until at least my anatomy ultrasound.

I am feeling the same way right now. We have been through a lot with our DS recently so it has been hard to get into the baby mood for baby #2. We have gotten some essentials, such as diapers and wipes (had alot of good sales over the weekend!) and a good friend gave us a crib (we can't put our son in a toddle bed yet!) We find out the sex of the baby on Thursday and our plan is after the holidays we will start getting the nursery ready. Right now it is just a big mess in the nursery!
You will get the urge soon to get ready for baby!
I still feel it's too early to buy things. Like jinxy. I'm still in the not-entirely-real mindset in general. Maybe (hopefully) after the first u/s and the quad screen my mindset will change.
Plus I hate shopping and so does DH.
I did buy Baby Bargains and just finished reading all the way through it. It was very reassuring and helpful.
We recently moved across the country so there will be no shower, but both families are eager to buy us stuff once we've registered. Their idea of fun. It's the first grandchild for both sides and they know it will probably be the only one overall. DH is an only child and my brother, at 37, still has no interest.
