finding clothes that fit - final stretch

I'm still doing okay with bottoms because I can fold the demi panel under my belly, but I'm struggling to find tops that fit and look okay.

I'm petite (5'3") and have only gained in the belly. My belly is getting wider and pointier now. If I put on larger size maternity shirts the belly is covered but the length and fit is really frumpy. If I wear the shirts that fit me everywhere else my belly hangs out the bottom of the front.

What did you have luck wearing in the last few weeks? I really don't want to go too crazy because at best I will wear stuff for the next 4-5 weeks, and I seem to be growing by the hour now.

Re: finding clothes that fit - final stretch

  • I didn't have much that fit me well the last few weeks. I was on bedrest, so frumpy worked most days for me. I did have a couple of maternity sweaters that were cut at a tunic length that fit through the end. I'd pair them with some perfect fit pants to ensure my belly was covered. I had them in both Duo from JCPenney and Liz Lange from Target.

The Duo sweaters were almost exactly like this: https://www3.jcpenney.com/jcp/X6.aspx?GrpTyp=SIZ&ItemID=19939dd&DeptID=70656&CatID=72501&SO=0&SelDim=4294957900~&CatSel=4294945161|sweaters+%2b+jackets&Ne=4294957900+29+3+11+1022+5+23+596+8+1031+585+18+904+833+949&x5view=1&shopperType=G&N=4294945161&Nao=0&PSO=0&CmCatId=70656|72501

  • I started buying some plus size tops instead of maternity tops. And bought maternity in the biggest sizes I could find.

  • Honestly, I didn't. I'm super petite too (5'2" size 2/4) and gained 30 pounds all in my belly. I was measuring between 46 and 47 weeks the day I delivered. I had 1 long black tank that covered the belly, and had to wear it every day under my other stuff. I have a toddler and had no choice but to look presentable because I took her to do things.

  • Niki -

I am having the same problem and I still have to dress professionally every day for work - I am really struggling!

So far I've been making it work with two dresses that still fit (although I think one may be on its last wearing this week...), one pair of black slacks that I've been pairing with a variety of tops (at this point mostly nicer t-shirts and tank tops), with two different cardigan sweaters I have! The cardigan sweaters are stretching my wardrobe for sure, simply because I can wear a long tank that covers my belly and pair it with the cardigan and look semi-put together.

I also have a pair of leggings that I've been wearing with a tunic from Old Navy and a boyfriend maternity sweater that I got at Old Navy...those two outfits have been my standard weekend wear.  The tunic and boyfriend sweater outfits may turn into work outfits if I don't get put on bedrest anytime soon - they are the only outfits I have with any extra room at this point!

At home I've been living in yoga pants and tank tops.  I am so sick of my current wardrobe it's not even funny!  I am so looking forward to wearing real outfits again!

  • I'm having the same problems too. ?I'm 6'0", so I'm really starting to run out of options. ?I have tights I can wear under my maternity dresses if I get desperate (they are starting to look like long tops), and I also have a black tank that covers everything, and I end up wearing it almost every day. ?At this point, I really don't want to invest in any more maternity clothes, so I'm just trying to do the best I can.
  • I had 1 old dorky shirt from Motherhood that became a favorite at the end b/c it not only covered my belly, it exceeded it.  What about tunics (either maternity or pre-pg since they're pretty long anyway.  How about sweater dresses (again, maternity or pre-pg).  Someone in your MoM's club might have some maternity clothes that fit them at the end they might be willing to lend. • I'm 4'10'' and size 0/2 Petite.....I had to resort to all dresses at the end any time I was leaving the house.  Thankfully that wasn't too often since I was on full time bedrest, but it got really old wearing dresses!  I gained 35 lbs and it was all in my belly.

  • Because I was PG in the 9 months of Louisiana summer, I was able to get away with  jersey knit sleeveless dresses for my whole pregnancy.  I'm not very tall and gained mostly in my belly, so, by the end, I was sizing up from M to L in dresses, but, they generally fit me better than separates.  For the few chilly days/nights we had, I wore leggings under the dresses, and a cardigan over them (open of course - no way was that thing gonna button!) to make them warmer.

At home, I lived in yoga pants and DH's tshirts.  And, by the end, even some of his tshirts didn't cover the belly.

This is exactly what I did. I got a bit more mileage out of my mat tops if I wore long cami's underneath. Most days towards the end I didn't leave the house so a lot if the time I just wore DH's shirts. Frumpy, yes but I could have cared less at that point.

  • I was on bedrest from about 29 weeks on, so I didn't really have to look presentable.  But, what I wound up doing was wearing a lot of my DH's regular t-shirts/long sleeve t-shirts.  He's an XL and it seemed to work for me.

  • I'm also petite - 5ft and maybe 105. I stuck with dresses or layers. I had 2 camis that were long enough so I wore them under everything. I also cracked out my bella bands - they covered the panel of my pants and were stretchy enough to fit over my huge belly.

  • I could have written this post myself. I was miserable about my clothing and honestly, I never really found anything. My belly was just too large for my small frame. Hope you have better luck!

This. I was wearing long maternity tanks under my materity shirts or pulling up the panel on my super stretchy yoga pants. I had a revolving wardrobe of only about 4 outfits at the end, but I didn't feel it was worth buying new clothes.
