Convertible crib question.

Ok so this is our first, we're planning on trying again when he's about a year old. Would you get a convertible crib that changes to a full bed, then just buy another crib for #2? Or would you just do a regular crib, and buy #1 a twin or bunk beds (if we get same sex) and let #2 use the old crib? The only thing is if we have a girl next time around, we're going to wish we'd gone with the convertible. Decisions decisions... that probably didn't even make sense!

Re: Convertible crib question.

  • I'd get the convertible crib.   Even if you don't convert it right away, it's still a crib for #2 to use too.  You'd know the sex of the 2nd baby before you'd take #1 out of the crib I'm sure so you could just make the decision then on buying a 2nd crib or buying the bunk beds etc.  I just kind of figure I'll be buying 2 convertible cribs before we are done with babies.  That's a bed for each of them as they grow.

  • We are on baby number 1 and bought the convertible crib, I do not think our little guy will use it because my DH is convinced that we will be getting this super awesome "Fort Bed"...lol.  I wanted to go with the convertible because one day I think it will look really nice as a full bed, even if we don't use it for the kids...it would work as a guest bed.
  • We are doing the convertible crib as well.  I like the idea of the baby growing with the crib. We do have a back up regular crib that friend's of ours gave us since they are done having kids.  So, if we don't like the convertible, we have a spare, or we can use it for the next child.

  • I would get a regular bed.  Toddler beds are cheaper than cribs, and my son basically ATE his crib when teething; I definitely wouldnt want to keep it for his big boy bed!  I think most people I know buy a nice crib for all of their kids to share, cheap toddler beds to get through that one year that they need them, and then at 3 years -ish, get their kids a full nice bedroom set that they can keep for a long time.
