trouble with spoon feeding

Logan is eating his fruits and veges like a champ, has been for a while. Aiden HATES feeding time! whenever I even get near his mouth with the spoon he clamps his lips together and starts getting mad. He will put darn near anything else in his mouth but spoon feeding always ends in crying and food spitting. I would understand if he didn't like what I was feeding him and then spit it out after tasting it, but he won't give anything a chance.

Any advice? His PT gave me some mouth stimulation exercises but they aren't working.

Re: trouble with spoon feeding

  • You children are not even 6 months -- while one does like the spoon the other does not because they are individuals.  Give Aiden a break for a week or two and then try again.  It's highly likely he's just not ready yet.

  • I used to work with babies with feeding issues.  While it's messy, let him play with it on his tray.  It gives him a chance to have control over the experience.  Give him his own spoon and dip it in the puree and if he brings it to his mouth and tastes it, that's a great start.  Are there any flavors that he accepts better?
