Domperidone vs Natural Supplement?

I have had to take a natural supplement (Lactate Support) to help boost my supply...it seems to be working but not to the extent I would like (meaning, I still have to supplement).  I am really considering asking my dr to write me a rx for it....I don't want to supplement w/formula, well I would prefer not to.  I breast feed my almost 4 week old and then he still drinks 3 oz of formula.  He was 9lb6oz at birth, so he is a big baby and likes to eat!  He lost 9 oz in the hospital and was not gaining the weight back as fast which we concluded was due to my lack of supply issue (thanks to me having a breast lift/reduction a couple years ago...i know that damaged some of my milk ducts.  I have a daughter that is 9 and had an ABUNDANCE of milk...more than I needed!)

Please share your experience w/domperidone....how fast it worked...how much (oz) your supply increased by, etc.???

THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Re: Domperidone vs Natural Supplement?

  • i relactated on Domperidone, i had no supply to a full supply, the only way to get domperidone in the US is from a compound pharmacy which is really expensive. so i suggest you order it from inhousepharmacy.biz it takes about 2 weeks to get and is more then half the cost of the compound pharmacy. i have ordered from them several times.

for me it worked pretty fast. you can checkout my blog for the actual amount of time it took. some woman are slow responders to domperidone and you might have to be on it 6-8 weeks before you see a real increase. others see one within a couple days. i personally started seeing milk within a couple days.

So you can't get a regular prescription for it here?  Like how much more is it vs online?  I did a search on that site and could not find it...could you send me the link?

  • You can, you just have to have it filled at a compounding pharmacy.  And insurance doesn't cover it, so it is very expensive....when I got it from a compounding pharmacy, it was about 100 for 150 pills...and that only lasted about 1.5 weeks.

If you buy it online, its about 1/4 of the cost.  But you have to wait two weeks, while the compounding pharmacy will get it to you immediately.  But again, you have to find one AND find a doc willing to prescribe it for you...not many will.

there is also no charge for shipping to the US.300 pills lasted me over a month at 90mg perday. just remember that it does take about 2 weeks to get.
