I think I may have a problem.
Today when we were flying in, I was freaking out that I didn't have any sanitizer. I ALWAYS have sanitizer and use it several times a day. I seriously kept thinking about all the germs the boys touched and took them to the bathroom just to wash their hands.
DH thinks I am crazy, but I can't help it, I pretty much sanitize all of us every time we are in public.
Kroger- sanitize (and the cart)
Friends houses- sanitize
after playing outside- sanitize
the second Jack gets in the car from preschool- sanitize
I am not so weird about food dropping on the floor etc, but I am really a spaz about germs.
The other day I notices Sawyer already knew to hold out his hands when he saw the sanitizer.
I am totally one of those moms aren't I??
(on another note, I really do believe it helps, Jack is NEVER sick and Sawyer is rarely either.)
Re: How often do you use Sanitizer?
Also, just FYI, we do wash our hands before every meal, and when needed, but I still feel the need to sanitize through out the day.
When I'm home, I wash my hands after every bathroom trip and before I eat anything. Or if I've just finished cleaning anything.
If I'm at school, I wash my hands before I eat lunch and whenever a student stands next to me with a runny nose. Or they ask to go to the nurse because they feel ill.
At the grocery store? I always sanitize the cart. DS is trained too... When we were at United Art & Education and I put him in the cart, he wiped it even though there were no sanitizing wipes (but I still pulled a wipe out of the diaper bag...)
Interesting, I didn't realize there was non alcohol sanitizer.
We don't use hand sanitizer, just good old fashion soap and water. Not even the anti-bacterial kind of soap.
FWIW, my kids are NEVER sick either.
I use the OR scrub sanitizer all day long at work. I also use the plain alcohol based stuff frequently at home. I rarely ever use it on DD, because she puts her hands in her mouth all the time. The alcohol and ingredients transfer into the mouth when it gets wet again. Too much of that can be toxic. We just use a non alcohol wipe or plain soap and water on her.
I am a surface sanitizing maniac. Especially in the kitchen and bathrooms, and I always wipe the carts at the grocery store.
I keep my hands washed, but that's it. I'm pretty lax about germs. If I go run errands or something, I make sure to wash my hands before touching DD's food or whatnot, but otherwise I'm really lenient about it, and DD has only ever had a mild stomach bug that I know her cousin gave her. You'd think I'd be a stickler for it since I teach micro, but I figure unless it's cold/flu season, she'll build her immune system getting exposed to stuff in low doses.
You do want to watch and not use the stuff with triclosan in it (including things like lotions, etc). They're showing that the more you use it, the more resistant the bugs get. Plain old soap or alcohol (70%) is your best bet.
Wow makes me feel bad for not being a germaphobe
We rarely use sanitizer yet I have a ton of it because I used to work at bbw. I do try to use it after diaper changes and if I blow my nose or something. Sometimes I will use it out in public if we are somewhere really gross or we?re getting ready to eat but not always.
Other than some sinus drainage right now (yuck) we are rarely sick at our house. I like to think it is because we are exposed to lots of germs. I say that I am teaching my immune system how to work. I never wipe down the cart at Kroger and feel like others judge me for not doing it?.oops.

This is how I feel too. Once they are in school, they won't sanitize all the time and honestly I would rather him slowly build up his immune system now, when he's in preschool/daycare and help minimize illnesses once he is in real school. FWIW, Eli rarely gets sick any more. The 1st year in daycare he was constantly, but I think it was mostly ear infection stuff which the tubes took care of. I have heard too much sanitizer is bad as it can kill the good along with the bad, so we don't use it often.

This is us, too, and Charlie is rarely sick unless it's an ear infection. I don't really like the idea of superbugs, so I try to stay away from sanitizers.
