Those whose LO rolls..

LO is getting so close to rolling from back to tummy, and he almost did it it  when he was sleeping last night. Is it okay for him to still be swaddled? I don't really swaddle him, more like wrap the blanket around his torso and legs to keep him warm (his arms are free) Is a sleep sack okay if they roll?

  • As long as the arms are free, I say it's fine.

  • he's fine... my DD rolls on her belly at night and still has one arm swaddled (unless she breaks out of it).  She is plenty strong enough to pick up her head.

  • DD has been rolling both ways for about 3 weeks now and she doesn't roll onto her belly when she's swaddled with both arms in. She will if she even has one arm out. I sleep better when she has both arms in! So does she, actually. Because she would wake up on her belly all sorts of angry because she hates being there!

  • he only rolls to the side but he can't do it swaddled. It requires him to scrunch up his legs and arms.

I just wanted to say, your siggy picture is ABSOLUTELY FREAKIN ADORABLE!!

OP, I agree, as long as your LO's arms are free, then it's not a problem.

  • It is a good idea to stop swaddling when LO is rolling.  It is okay to "swaddle" with both arms out (wrap just the belly).  We just switched to a Halo Slepesack at that point, which he continues to sleep in.
