Post-Partum Cankles?!?

Anyone have tons of leg/ankle/foot swelling post-partum?  The night of my c/s, I remember my legs looking very normal.  Today (2 days later) I'm HUGELY swollen.  Anyone else?  I'm assuming it's from the IVs from the c/s?  Maybe?  I'm really hoping it goes away soon!

Re: Post-Partum Cankles?!?

  • Two days after I had my baby, I had major swelling for a week. And I mean major. Thighs, knees, legs, ankles, feet. When we had visitors, they were shocked. I really freaked out. It is totally normal. I called my OB and they said it's a concern only if you have severe pain. I didn't have much pain but it was very weird. Anyway point is, it's normal, don't worry. It is from all the IV fluids.

  • completely normal! its from the surgery and all the fluids they pump you up with. at my one week pp appt to get my staples out i asked my doctor and he said two to three weeks for it to go down, but it went down completely like 2 days later.

oh, and putting your feet up wont help. he actually said that getting moving around more will help!

  • I was ridiculously swollen for weeks. Couldn't wear shoes because if all the fluid on board. Took 3 weeks for my feet, legs, thighs, back - yep it was all the up into my mid back. Yuck.

  • I had an IV-free, natural birth and still had a lot of swelling in my feet postpartum.  It got better a week out from delivery, though.

  • Yes... I was SOOOOO swollen. Mine was from the magnesium sulfate that was given to me because of my Pre Eclampsia. It took a week before it started getting better. But keeping them up, heating pad, and foot rubs did wonders!

  • I was pumped full of fluids for 24+ hours and it took a good 2 weeks for it to go down.
