Trying to Get Pregnant

Would you wait till next month?

This was suppose to be our first month TTC#2. I am not charting or temping but just guessing I would be ovulating at the beginning of next week.

At the end of October I got a phone call that I was finally scheduled for a tonsillectomy. I had that Nov 17th and I think I am finally through the worst of the pain. I was prescribed Amoxicillian, Tylenol 3 and Hydromorphone.

I have been trying to take advil instead of these drugs when possible. The nurses suggested I do this if possible.

In the past 9 days I have taken 8 hydromorphone's and 14 Tylenol 3s, and advil each day. I took regular tylenol this afternoon and I am hoping I can continue with just tylenol until I no longer need anything.

When mentioned to DH that I should be ovulating early next week he said we would not be trying this month after taking all of these medications.

If I dont need to take anything else from here on and I ovulate early next week would you still TTC or just use protection until next month?

Re: Would you wait till next month?

  • Honestly - after all that you might not ovulate as early as you expect. Sometimes after all the meds and having something like that done your body pushes it back. Its up to you if you want to wait or not...

  • I think you should wait, your DH thinks it a good idea

  • I vote WAIT too. I have no profound medical knowledge to back this up... its just something I feel I would personally do.

Its true, all the meds & everything could have thrown off your O schedule anyway.

    Hope you are feeling better!

  • I would suggest contacting your dr to ask him/her if there are any risks associated and what you should do.  GL

  • None of those meds will stay in your system long enough to have any effect on the baby, if you were to get KU this cycle. It may, however, delay your ovulation. It's really up to you if you want to start now or wait. I personally would try, knowing that it may not happen right away. I wouldn't want to skip a cycle if I didn't have to.

    This.

You wouldn't want to keep TTC if there were significant risks involved with what's going on, but you also don't want to wait if there's no reason to.  Your doctor is the best person to give you advice at this point.  You might even want to speak to both your obgyn and the doctor who's care you're under for your tonsils.

Good luck, and I hope you finish healing from your tonsillectomy soon!

  • Thanks ladies..

I clearly did not want to get pregnant this cycle if there was risks involved, and at the same time I didnt want to skip this cycle is there was no reason to skip it...

I will see if I can contact my doctor monday morning. I live in a small town the doctor who performed the tonsillectomy isnt even from the same province as I am... so looks like my doctor is the only one I can contact.

I think if I can just continue to use regular tylenol it would be ok but I will check and make sure. Yesterday was the turning point for me and my healing process. Its crazy I have read how the pain gets SOOOOO bad and then its just gone, just like that... no gradual recovery... I just have a really tender feeling throat and a tiny bit of nerve pain in my ear.
