Spelling question

Is Emilia a uneek spelling? I'd like to honor an aunt whose name was Emily, but I'm not fond of the sound of her name and prefer Emilia.

Re: Spelling question

  • Just saw the spelling Emmalia too.

I think I like Emilia better.  But there is something about the spelling that turns me off, not quite sure what though.

  • I like it. Although I could be biased.
  • I think it is the ili part that throws me off. I like it though. And I pronounce Emmalia and Emilia two different ways.

  • How are you pronouncing it?  Are you pronouncing it Eh-meel-ya (almost like Amelia) or Ehm-ah-lee-ya (closer to Emily)?  It's usually pronounced the first way, so if you are planning on pronouncing it the second way, there may be issues later down the road.  I like the look of it, but only pronounced the first way.

  • I think it's the much less common spelling, and you and she will forever be correcting people.

We were planning to pronounce it more like Amelia.
  • Honestly, if you want it pronounced Amelia, spell it "Amelia".

  • I have a niece whose name is Emelia. I prefer that spelling over Emilia.

I find half the family pronounces it uh-meel-ya and the other half pronounces it ee-meel-ya.

I would spell it this way then.  Spelling it Emilia I am pronouncing it Ehm-ah-lee-ya.

Love it. Love the name Amelia, and love the spelling of Emilia even more than with the A. GL!

Um, yeah. The Bump be too crazy for pics of my kid.
  • I'm pretty sure Emilia is the Spanish/Italian version of Amelia. Totally legit, and a lovely name!

No.  It's a beautiful name, prettier and less common than Emily.

Actually, Emilia and Amelia are two completely different names that just happen to be pronounced similarly.
