...Like he's been doing it all his life but now I have questions. We are going to a show tomorrow night and will leave around 8:15. Ds2 is usually down for the night at that time but once in a while wakes up and wants to eat more. He is EBF. I want to leave milk for him. Dh's aunt will be here with the babies. Ok how much does a 2.5 month old eat? Should I just make several 2 oz bottles? I have been washing the pump parts in soapy water and then boiling them everytime I pump at all. Is this what I should be doing? Just wash with soap? Dishwasher? Do you think 2 days of practice is sufficient to say that ds can take a bottle? He had no trouble with it at all. He got it into the right position in his mouth and chugged away. Oh and how long can pumped milk stay in the fridge? I EBF ds1 and pumped very little and never left him anywhere. I know I probably need to learn to do this. I know there is a BF board but I like you guys and I know Stacy EPed. Any other tips? (sorry for no indents-on phone) thanks!!

Re: Pumping questions-Just tried a bottle on my 2.5 mo and he drank it...
i never boiled my parts (after the first inital sterilizing). hot soapy water is just fine.
pumped milk is good in the fridge for one week.
I wouldn't stress over it- if your little guy took the bottle fine then sounds like you are good to go. I would give him another one today to make sure. (just make sure you pump the feeding you miss nursing)
As for how much to leave- that is kinda rough for me to answer because Chase still isn't doing well with the bottles so it is hard for me to estimate what he would take. I know when I pump right now I am getting a lot of milk (but i had an oversupply with gisele and i am sure i have one again- so i am not pumping hardly at all as to not make it worse) They say pumps are obviously less effective draining the breasts than a baby- (which really makes me wonder how much Chase is eating- because I can pump 5oz in less than 5 minutes one breast).
If i had to guess- i would say leave a couple of 4oz bottles. Expressed BM can be left out up to 10 hrs at room temp. So if your little guy doesn't completely finish a bottle- your aunt doesn't have to put it back in the fridge right away.
Sounds like you have a great supply!
Definitely pump a few bottles and go out and enjoy the evening!
The pumped milk will stay fresh in the fridge for 1 week. In the regular freezer for about 3 months and in a deep freezer for over a year.
I do NOT miss all the pumping! I am so glad this baby is nursing well. My kids are all or nothing. Gisele would never nurse (after coming home from the hospital) and this baby wants nothing to do with bottles (we are still working on it)
lol @ thinking of me. i have only pumped a few times this time around. so thankful for that.
When i was pumping for Gisele- I was pumping 12x a day. I would put my pump parts in a ziplock bag and store it in the fridge in between pumping sessions. and I would only wash them once a day with hot soapy water. A lot of exclussive pumpers do that trick because if you didn't you would be washing your pump all day long- every day.
yeah it was- but it is only in the beginning (first 3-4 months) then you can start spacing it out more and drop the pumping sessions. still was far from 'fun'
That was the one thing with this baby that had me really worried about- if he didn't nurse I just knew i didn't have it in me again to pump. Not with a newborn and a toddler.
Now i think back to what was easier: just pumping with a newborn (and then feeding her) ~ which took a TON of work- or nursing a newborn while constantly watching a toddler? -- the more i think about it- it is just about the same amount of work. lol- because truly you can't really 'enjoy' just nursing him. (same like i couldn't enjoy just feeding gisele) lol because you are constantly concerned with doing something else (either pumping or caring for a toddler). I do get to 'enjoy' my 2am nursing session with Chase because then i can really just focus on him- but most times the back of my eyelids win too.
So what are going to go see for date night? so jealous!
OMG- you definitely need a date night- that sounds like it will be a BLAST. Penn and Teller are hysterical. I love their show on Showtime 'Bull$hit'
Don't worry at all about the kiddos- they will be FINE! Relax- enjoy and have a BLAST.
lol- the boobs crack me up.
they even worked boobs into their show about taxes. I was rolling laughing. But not much bothers me.
