I have a total newb question
, forgive me this is my 2nd cycle using OPK's...
I've been going "rogue" with my ob/gyn's permission. He told DH and I to just use OPK's for November and December and enjoy the holidays before we start the investigative work in January. I haven't been temping but the past few days the EWCM has been dripping like a faucet so I've been thinking O is coming. I seem to be getting some fade in on the OPK's but no "same as" line yet on CD 13. I've been a regular CD13 or CD14 Ovulation since I began keeping track. Since my period was longer and heavier than it has been in the past I'm thinking I'll O later?? Should I start OPKing 2 times a day? I've been OPKing in the morning since the tests don't specify and I'd rather not do it at work. I guess I'm just nervous I'll miss my window and DH is on 24hour call 7am Saturday to 7am Sunday. We'll get sex in tonight and I'll try and convince him on Saturday morning.
TIA for any guidance!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Re: OPK Question
This was my 2nd cycle with OPK's too, and I had a lighter/shorter period than last cycle... I was wondering the same thing you were! If my CD for O would change because my period ended on a different CD.
It did for me. Last cycle I O'd 9 days after AF ended, that was CD15. This cycle I got a positive OPK last night, CD13. Again, it was 9 days after AF ended.
As everyone is different and there's no hard and fast rules with ANYTHING when it comes to fertility and ovulation, I won't say that your CD for O will definitely move... but I would start OPK'ing twice a day to make sure you don't miss your surge... I'm guessing your CD for O will shift a day or two.
I'm sure the more cycles we use OPK's the more familiar we'll get with our CD for O and their relation to our periods, etc.! It's really all about patterns over time with our own bodies... so frustrating when you want to know NOW! GL!
I'm not an OPK pro, but here's what I'd say. If you are taking the OPK in the morning DO NOT use FMU because the hormone you are looking for (LH) gets higher during the day. You need to hold your urine for 4 hours and not drink for the last 2 hours. Once you start to get a more visible line start testing 2x a day so you don't miss your surge. It is considered pos when the test line is the same shade or darker than the control line.
I think that's pretty much it,but if I'm wrong/missed anything someone else can add in.
GL!
I just counted on some of my charts when I temped and 9 days seems to be my average too. Thanks for pointing that out! Seems if thats the norm I'll O tom'w... fingers crossed!
Thanks ladies ... I worked on my Christmas cards today which distracted me long enough to hold my pee for 4 hours and tada a + @ 5pm!! I'm excited to make DH dinner and woo him tonight!
Once again the bump comes through!!
