"You can't have too many blankets"

While I appreciate our loved ones' generosity, I disagree with this comment. I think we already had 9 blankets for DD. Since she's been born, we have received 4 more, including one last night. We honestly only use about half of what we have so far and we've been fine.  My aunt who gave us the blanket said this comment. What do you guys think? Can you have too many blankets? How many do you guys use?

  • It can definitely get excessive -- we have 8 Aden and Anais swaddling blankets, 3 blankets that were knit by loved ones, and 3 warm fleece blankets. Argh.

I do really love our Aden and Anais blankets... they're awesome! I could easily be fine with only having 2 or 3 of them though.

OMG!!! That's a lot! So far, I haven't kept any of the extra blankets people have given us. I feel bad, and they are cute, just not needed. I will never give a blanket as a gift haha.

  • We've got FAR too many blankies of all kinds and sizes. Some of the smaller cotton receiving blankets are being used as burp cloths now.

  • We received 7 fleece blankets, 7 flannel receiving blankets, and two homemade blankets. I returned all of the fleece blankets I could, but ended up with 4 still. I cut up two receiving blankets for cloth wipes and use 2 as changing pads in my diaper bag. I don't use all of my blankets at all and think people are crazy when they say that. I have my favorite for tummy/play time and my backup for when he spits on it. I don't get all the fleece blankets at all. I live in Florida. It is over 80 degrees most of the time!

  • I've been using the flannel receiving blankets like crazy.   I'm sure I have 20 and go through several a day.  I only have 2 fleece blankets and don't think I need any more than that.  It's also definitely winter here with over a foot of snow in the last 24 hours.

Wow that's alot of blankets to go through in one day. If you don't mind me asking, what do you do with them all?

We have entirely too many flannel recieving blankets. They're too small to swaddle LO in so we are just using the larger ones we have to cover LO during outings.

  • we have way too many!

  • We got so many at our showers that I exchanged a few.... we still have lots, but I am finding it is handy because I can have a few in each room of the house.... and don't have to wash as often.  :)

I don't go through 20 in a day but probably have 20 in various sizes.  I probably go through 5 or so in a day but I use them as burp cloths and to wrap him up and he'll inevitably get a bit of spit up on them or breast milk will leak since I wrap him up while I'm feeding him.

He hasn't been spitting up quite as much over the last 2 days but some days he seems to spit up more than others.

  • OH.MY.GOSH! I could have written this! My mom said the same thing. Ready for this... we have 6 crib sheets, 11! fleecy/afghan type blankets, 3 quilts, and 6 receiving blankets!!! It takes up the WHOLE top shelf of our linen closet! Im so annoyed lol. And I cant get rid of the blankets because they were all handmade for us and Id feel horrible if I did. Im hoping that when LO gets older these so called "cant have enough" blankets get used a little more often! Otherwise Im thinking craigslist might be my new best friend to give them to those in need

  • I think i have just the right amount of blankets. Two that i keep in the areas me & LO stay, and the other 6 are folded and are underneath his changing table. I only have one that was made by my grandmother, but the other ones that were bought i break out when i know that person who bought it is coming over or if im going to be seeing them that day. For example, i brought the blue blanket my little sister bought yesterday bc i knew i was going to see her, and then today, folded that one up and broke out the winnie the pooh blanket my grandfather brought since my gransparents were coming over today. Otherwise i use these two  blankets that are warm and soft, my favorite :)

  • I received 2 handmade quilts, 3 knit or crocheted blankets, 1 handmade fleece and at least 6 other fleece blankets! That doesn't include the flannel receiving blankets, half of which are too small to swaddle the LO in. We received three really large receiving blankets and we just keep washing them for swaddling. It's the thought that counts but there IS such a thing as too many blankets.

  • Ladies, ladies! Send some my way! With blow outs and spit up, I am constantly in need of extra blankets!

  • We have about 40 swaddling cloths.

We use the swaddling cloths all.the.time.  Not only do they keep the girls warm, but we use them under the girls when we change their diapers in the living room (where we don't have a changing station).

We also use them for burp clothes when we run out of our normal burp clothes.

We also have about 15-20 regular blankets and we anticipate we'll use those a lot once the girls are old enough.  Several of them are handmade and we figure the rest of them will be used for their dolls when the girls are older.

  • We use our receiving blankets as burp cloths.  We love our Aden and Anais Swaddle Wraps--we use them to swaddle, and to put around his legs in his infant car seat, and as a burp cloth.  We use the baby quilts as a playmat on the floor for him to lay down on and do tummy time.  It is all about creativity.  And our Carter's Velour blanket and Pottery Barns Stroller Blanket keep him warm in his stroller.

  • I definately said this before baby 3- this baby spit up quite a bit in the beginning and we went through lots of blankets.  I think they just remember back in the day... swaddling is great!
  • Oh good, I'm not the only one. I just counted mine yesterday and we now have 28 blankets. I'm going to start re-gifting them. I know, that's terrible but I'm not going to use all of them.

  • It gets a little ridiculous. But I will say that those flannel receiving blankets are used nonstop here. I have 8 and probably wash them all every other day. I also love those A&A swaddling blankets. I have 4. Then there are the millions of homemade blankets people have given to us that aren't used as much- those are more for over the carseat or over us while rocking kind of blankets.
  • My MIL knit 6 blankets all with matching hats, sweaters, and booties I HAVENT USED ONE LOL! I have three baby blankets that are easily washable and soft that I rotate through.
