Heartburn is Ruining My Life!

I've been trying small meals and pepcid twice daily but it's not working and it has become unbearable.  I practically cried myself to sleep last night because of the pain. Any suggestions that have worked for you are  much appreciated. TIA

  • Good Morning :) Zantac works for me. I take 75mg in the morning and 75mg before dinner. OB told me she personally took it her entire twin pregnancy and it worked the best.

And my OB said I couldn't take it.  I hate all these differing opinions.  Has it sunk in that you aren't going back to work on Monday?  I'm still not used to the idea.

Ugh! Every doctor has different opinons. Its so hard. It has sunk in - I havent been at work since last Friday. I went into PTL on Saturday and am 2cm dilated. Just released from the hospital this morning on strict bedrest. So much fun. Did you enjoy your last days?

Oh that sucks!  So sorry, but glad you are home. I was dragging myself the last few days, but now I know I'll be freaking out about money when I lose regular pay in January...trying to remember that my 2011 tax return (with the double child credit) will help replenish the savings.

  • Thats what I keep reminding myself. I have enough sick time to take till the beginning of March paid (if I use my entire sick bank) so tax return time will be perfect. It was definitley the scariest week of my life, but the babies are awesome, have their steroid shots and the magnesium worked well for me. Now our next goal is to just get them to 32 weeks. It's hard not being able to do anything, but whatever I have to do :)

  • i took prevacid as needed with both pregnancies... i used to sell it - it's Cat B and also approved in babies as young as 1y/o and given to infants by many docs, too. I felt 100% safe taking it - so did my OB - she gave me the Rx... but now it's OTC in the 15mg dose (i took 30mg.. you can take 2 of the OTC to get to that).

it will work much better than any zantac/pepcid (they are H2blockers and not so great)... prevacid is a proton pump inhibitor and works much better to stop the acid that causes heartburn.

  • I lived on Zantac 150... I took it first thing in the morning and then around 4pm.

Thank you. I think I  may call the dr now to get an approval to do that.  I can't live like this.

  • I took Zantac 75mg twice a day... TUMS frequently and the last week I needed to add Prevacid too.  I really feel your pain.  It was the WORST symptom of the pregnancy.  By the end, I would wake up choking on the acid and throwing up.  Hoping you'll find some relief...

  • Papaya enzyme tablets have worked wonders for me.
  • Prilosec was like a miracle drug to me. Once I started taking it, not a bit of heartburn anymore, and I had it BAD!

  • Thanks ladies. Doc's office is closed until Monday. I don't want to call the answering service for heartburn. My aunt suggested heavy cream so I got some, along with more Pepcid, at the supermarket. Hopefully it will all help until Monday.
