My doc told me today the results of my ultrasound last week... the baby's measuring 3 weeks behind (I'm 35 weeks and change, the baby's measuring around 32), and the doctor's seriously concerned about this - to the point where she's wanting me to come in first thing tomorrow morning, have another ultrasound done, and then possibly get sent to another hospital to see a high risk specialist and even possibly get induced.
The last part is scaring the crap out of me right now!!! My due date's not for over a month, and I don't want the baby to be spending weeks in NICU.
Anyone else dealing with something similar? What's your situation?
Re: Anyone dealing with IUGR?
I have IUGR. I was diagnosed with it about a week ago. I am 38 weeks on monday and my baby only weighs 4 pounds 7 oz. The baby is only in the 10 percentile. They have been watching me since about 28 weeks cuz the baby was smaller at our 20 week appt. I went to see a specialist at about 28 weeks and he did an extensive ultrasound, with an amnio. everything came back normal. they didnt say at the point that had iugr but they have really watched me since then. I have non stress tests twice a week with an ultrasound to check on fluid and baby. Like i said last week the baby was measuring only in the 10 percentile so my doctor has decided to induce me a week earlier. If anything changes with me or baby i will be induced right away.
My situation is different than yours because i am farther along than you but the only suggestion i can give you is make sure the doctor runs all the tests they can before you agree to begin induced. My doctor said the hard situation with this is they dont know why the baby is smaller so will the baby do better outside of me. Even if you could get two weeks you would be better off. But you are pretty close to begin full term so your baby maybe just will be small. Thats the only thing that keeps me going is my baby is just small and hopefully he or she will grow better outside. Hang in there and keep up your sprits remember they ultrasounds are not always 100%. I dont know if anything i helped you but good luck.
My DD had been measuring 2 weeks small, but they just kept an eye on it and actually weren't that worried. She was born 6 days late at 7 lbs 6 oz.
Just try to be positive, and remember that whether the baby stays inside or needs to come outside, it will be what's best for the baby.
I had been all but diagnosed with IUGR last week based on a growth u/s at my regular hospital. Baby's abdomen and femurs were measuring 2-3 weeks behind the head. When I was sent to my high-risk place for another u/s, everything ended up being much more within range.
According to my high-risk place, since the overall size is a composite of the various measurements, a couple of small inaccuracies can really make a difference. So please don't get too freaked out until you've had every test deemed necessary by the high-risk doctors.
My doctor decided to induce me at 37w5d after my appointment because Annalise's stomach was measuring three weeks behind her body. It showed this at three different ultrasounds, so she decided to go ahead and induce. There were actually no problems when she was born, but they wanted to be safe just in case. She was a very small baby (just weighing 5 pounds), but she was healthy. Just stay positive. I freaked out when she said that she was going to induce me THAT day because I wasn't really ready!
I am sorry to hijack the post - but I just have to say the top picture of your DD is just ADORABLE! What a great expression!
