When do you decorate for Christmas?

This is the first year I actually get to decorate a place that feels like home, so I'm super excited.  :)

I was thinking of starting to decorate this weekend ... and now I'm wondering when everyone else puts Christmas stuff up?

Is it typical to decorate right after Thanksgiving, or do you think that's jumping the gun a little bit?

TIA.

Re: When do you decorate for Christmas?

  • As soon as I see Christmas trees in front of my closest the grocery store... that is by the end of nevember here.. so next week!

  • I am starting either tomorrow or sometime this weekend. I like to have my tree up as long as possible because its a lot of work. Plus I want to get my Christmas pictures done soon so I can get my cards sent.

  • We are doing it on the 28th, the offical start of Advent (this Sunday)! I can't wait! I have a box of Christmas decorations just sitting in the kitchen, waiting to go up :) And today I'm baking pumpkin bread, because I realllly want to start my Christmas cookie baking but I'm trying to hold off ;)

  • We already had our Thanksgiving, so I do it the weekend after Rememberance Day.  But, if I was in the US and celebrating TG today, I'd do it after that - so this weekend.

I put mine up last weekend, and I have to say the decorations look the best they ever have and we didn't even put the tree up!

Oh, I want to start baking too!!!  I guess I could do a few things and freeze them.  But, DH will likely find them and devour everything so I'll have to start all over again.

    Yay!

I am so excited to put ours up ...  we won't do the tree yet, but I'm excited to see what just the decorations look like.   :)

  • The tree went up last night but it's not decorated. It's fake and needs a few days to fall and setle to look it's best lol. We are decorating this weekend. I am baking already and even bought eggnog already!
  • We usually do ours Thanksgiving weekend.  If we have energy after Black Friday shopping, sometimes we'll even get started then.  In past years, we did it this early because we traveled for Christmas and wanted to have plenty of time to enjoy it before our trip, but now it's just become a tradition.  I'm scared of putting up the tree this year.  I can only imagine what DS will try to do to it.

  • I am usually a very early Christmas decorator. Usually whenever the Christmas tunes start on the radio (last weekend here in Philly) is when I start. This year, however, we have our townhouse for sale, and have a storage unit full of bins which includes 3 or 4 bins of the christmas stuff. I imagine next weekend we'll go get the tree, ornaments, and one of the bins with stockings out to at least put that up. No lights this year outside or around our big window on the landing, no candles in windows (that would be bad news bears for DD anyway!), and all the other christmas nick nacks probably won't make their way out as to not look too cluttered for open houses! Boo. Hopefully next year we'll have our dream home and I can go wild decorating!
