2nd Trimester

Cars & Babies/Kids

We're in the market for a car and personally I'm a cloth seat kind of girl.  But with a baby on the way I've heard and have been thinking that leather might be easier to clean.  I keep my cars for a long time and I don't want the cloth to end up looking awful.

 Opinions, experiences?

Thanks!

Danielle

Re: Cars & Babies/Kids

  • I always do leather. I hate cloth. Plus, I spill all the time so I guess leather is better for clumsy me...I'm sure it will be better for a baby/toddler too!

  • I've had both.  Cloth isn't bad to clean up, but sometimes holds onto smells, which can be nasty.  Right now I have black leather and it has been awesome for keeping clean and hiding messes.
  • I have leather and I hate it (but I don't have kids yet).

I hate it because it is not a very sturdy leather and I swear you can see my ass imprints in the front seat. ?I'm guessing with a car seat the imprints will be much worse. ??

  • Leather all the way.  My nephew has already spilled quite a few things on my leather seats but you would never know.  Clean up is so easy.
  • I don't have kids yet but I am messy enough myself. I have cloth in my car and find that stuff just repels off... of course it is black cloth so that makes it harder to tell. I have a 2005 mazda 3 and love it. It isn't like the typical cloth in most cars...much more substantial. The new mazda 6 looks amazing if you are looking for a sedan and the cx-7 is highly rated in all my DH's car magazines about the crossover SUV's.
  • Leather all the way.  My two dogs get filthy in there, and cleanup is amazing.

We have the cx-7 and LOVE it.  Best decision we made in picking that over the other ones we looked at.

  • I have cloth, and DH has leather. I dont really have an opinion either way....except, that if you do go with leather. Get one of the those "car seat protectors" that go under the babies car seat. A tight car seat on leather seats for a couple years will put indents in the seat that will never come out. We wish we would have got one with DH's Truck, but we didnt notice what it was doing until too late.

I'm so jealous! My car will be paid off soon though so I need to enjoy not having a payment for a while. Assuming they are still making them, that will be my next car!

  • My car has leather and DH's has cloth (his is a Ford Escape hybrid - love it, can't say enough about it if you are looking for a small SUV - it gets 35 mpg average).  The leather does clean up much easier and his car already looks dirty even though its brand new.

Clearly just my leather sucks. ?FWIW, the leather I got was after factory and I think that makes a big difference. ??

  • We've got 4 kids plus the one on the way. Leather all the way, baby. You still have to deal with carpet clean-ups, but seat cleaning is way easier.
