Rear-facing carseat ?

I looked up in OHio and they dont have any specific law for how long a child should be rear facing, does anyone know any guidelines for this?? Is it until we feel comfortable and how well babies have control of their heads?

TIA,

Happy Turkey Day to everyone

I don't think there is a law specific to keeping them rear-facing. We're keeping Soph rear-facing as long as possible. Here's all I could find:

Ohio state law requires that children under four years old and under 40 pounds must ride in a car seat or booster that is appropriate for the child's age and weight. Ohio state law also states that the car seat must be used according to manufacturer's instructions.

Beginning October 7, 2009, Ohio also requires that children ages four through seven who are less than 4'9" tall must ride in a federally approved booster seat.

Children through age 15 must wear a seat belt or be secured in an appropriate child restraint system.

The law for Ohio is: If your child is under 1 year and under 20 pounds, he must be in a rear-facing child seat.

Although, please consider rear facing for longer than that, it is recommended until they are at least 2.

Thanks Ashley, that's what I found too.

Backstory is that we are antisipating A needing a new carseat probably come spring time and I was looking at the 3-1, but just wasnt sure if he still needed to be rear facing, if there was any laws etc.

I think we will keep him rear facing as long as possible also

edit: just found this article, some days I have good luck w/ google and other days I dont. I think it's human error!

I wish some of the mommy's around here knew about this law. I see forward-facing newborns ALL THE TIME. It makes me want to open their car door and turn the seat around.

The laws in France are so lax...they only say the baby needs to be in a carseat.  I have seen so many women with newborns in the FRONT seat that it makes me want to cry.

When I asked one of the women dropping her baby @ the daycare why she had it in the front she said "because I can keep an eye on her better"...I wanted to smack her!

We couldn't find a rear facing infant seat that fits in our car, so LO is now forward facing.  He is over 1 year and well over the 20 pounds, although I'm still not happy about it.

I've only heard the 1 year and 20lbs rule... although I plan on keeping Mari rear-facing as long as her legs allow.
