we've gone the last couple years and will be attending again -- the girls have a blast!
tips:
*be more toward the start of the parade at the capital than the end @ 1st street. Otherwise, it would seem too long for it to start. The cameras with a little VIP section are located at the Driskell around 7th. We've set up close to there.
*bring a stroller and you can set it up right on the line for your kids to have a front-row seat.
*the stroller also helps to save your spot. Things get crowded before the parade, but then you'll get kind of smooshed once the parade starts, so it's nice to have your spot.
*we've always found free parking on the street.
*If you set up on the west side of the street, the sun might be in your eyes some.
*Bring a toy to put in a pick-up truck at the end of the parade. They'll announce when to do it. It was confusing the first year since we kept seeing Toy Trucks passing by. (they wait until the Toy Trucks are spread out throughout the length of the parade).
and....that's all the tips I can think of now. The girls LOVE it.
oh, and I'm planning on bringing sidewalk chalk for the girls to play with while waiting for the parade to start this year. Otherwise it can get pretty boring for them
We usually park at UT and walk down Congress through the Capitol and then camp out in front of the Capitol building. That's near the start of the parade, which I like except that you have to wait *forever* for the toy trucks since they send them empty through the route so that they are evenly spread out. So you'll watch all these toy trucks pass by, but you have to wait for the last ones to stop to be able to drop off your toy.
We tend to run late and are usually able to squeeze into a spot, but that's been with just one little kid, no strollers or anything else.
Ooo, just the information I was looking for, thanks for posting! We've been told it's a must do for families in Austin, so we're definitely going to go check it out. :-)
