Not sure whether you posted an update... How did you guys do with the attempt at giving up bottles last weekend? We tried, but it did not go well. Katie would not drink milk out of a sippy cup and basically complained until she got a bottle. We had been giving her a bottle first thing in the morning, before each nap, and before bed. Since the weekend we've been down to 3, skipping the bottle before the afternoon nap and offering milk in a sippy cup instead. She refuses it though.
Re: robynlesley re: giving up bottles
It is not going too well. Basically Aaron won't drink milk in any container other than a bottle.
There have been a few days this week that he's had no milk. But we've pretty much caved and when he asks for a baba we give it to him.

We only give Maeve drinks in sippy cups now- we started at 11months (doc recommended that she be using a cup by her 1st bday). We only gave her bottles before bed and before her nap. But at her 1 year bday, we stopped those bottles. Now only sippy cups. She really didn't seem to mind, altough I will say she seems to drink less now that she is "in charge" of how much she actually drinks....
(I would say she probably drinks about 4 oz of water and around 12-16 oz of milk a day)
Okay here's my bad mom confession for you ladies struggling with this--Stella drank her milk out of a bottle until she was almost 2.5. We only gave it to her at meals, and she didn't need it to fall asleep. She just would NOT drink milk out of a cup. It was traumatic for both of us every time we tried to switch her. Water out of a cup was never a problem. My pedi told us to just take it away. We got eye rolls from friends whose kids had dropped bottles without a problem. Everyone told me it would be harder the older she got.
A couple of months ago I decided to talk to her about being a big girl. We packed up the bottles to send to her baby cousin. She switched to drinking her milk out of a cup with a straw, and after the first day, she didn't ask about the bottles again. It was soooooo easy.
For us, it was the best way to do it. I don't think it's the end of the world if it takes your LO a little longer to transition
I posted in the spin off up above. It really isn't a big deal. If you want to drop the bottle, drop it. Offer milk in the sippy of his choice and if he drinks it great, if not, feed him some extra cheese and yogurt. They will eventually drink milk.
Noah never drank out of a bottle so wasn't interested in milk that didn't come from me. Wasn't for about a year. He would drink a little here and there but wasn't that interested. He loves it now. During that period, we just made sure to cook with milk and offer yogurt and cheese and other sources of calcium and dairy. Look at him. He is 3 year old, tall, 40 pound healthy wonder.
Finn is still on two bottles a day. If he ever decides to start eating real food, I will drop them pretty quickly.
