Great Advice from My Doc

I had a check up this morning and had a really nice talk with my doctor about my concerns about weight gain over the holidays. I know everyone has differing perspectives about weight gain during pregnancy and that everyone's body is different, but I really appreciated my doctor giving me some tips so I thought I'd pass them along to you ladies!

1. Remember that the average American puts on 5 to 15 pounds at the holidays. It is ok if your weight gain increases a bit. The holidays is the hardest time to be in the third trimester. Cut yourself some slack.

2. Exercise EVERY DAY. That means at least 30 minutes, 7 days a week. It could be as light as a walk around the neighborhood, but do something.

3. Avoid the appetizers if at all possible. Grazing packs on the pounds. If appetizers are intended to be the meal, make a plate to eat and then be finished.

4. Don't let people guilt you into desserts. If you can't stand the comments, take the dessert but don't eat it. Toss or give it to someone else later if need be.

5. Remember that the season is about being around loved ones, not food. Enjoy your favorites in moderation, but spend more time talking than putting food in your mouth.
