Trying to Get Pregnant

Anyone TTC and in professional school?

Have you told any of your school friends you are TTC?

Are you scheduling which cycles you TTC on to try to have your due date around things like exams, internships, and breaks or are you just throwing caution to the wind?

Would love to hear what others are doing. We are actively not trying on cycles that would wind up having the due date be the months of my exams, but otherwise aren't sure about whether to strategically try or not.

Re: Anyone TTC and in professional school?

  • I graduate next August thankfully, but am not basing my TTC schedule around it yet.
However-- I had an unplanned c-section with my son, and will need another c-section with this one. So...if my c-section date falls on a date during final exams, I may skip summer quarter, and take my last two classes after the baby is here.

  • School is having no impact on our TTC. I am however in a program I have the ability to take a semester off and resume with no issues. We were going to wait til I finished the program I'm in now but we decided we wanted a baby more than I wanted this job.
  • I'm graduating in December. We did first plan TTC around my school schedule, just because I wanted to make sure I was able to graduate before I'd be too far along in my pregnancy. Well, here we are, 6 cycles into TTC, about to graduate and no pregnancy to speak of. I totally thought I'd be KU by now.

  • School is the only reason that we waitied until this Fall to ttc. I graduate in May, so even if I get pregnant right away, school shouldn't be affected.

However, I told my advisor that we were starting ttc and she told me to make sure that I file it with the school's disability office, just in case I need flexibility.

  • Did she suggest you file w/ disability office now or once you conceive?  That was something I had been thinking about esp if I'm going to be throwing up during exams, LOL.  (I can just picture the proctor's face as I run out of the exam room.)

  • I'm not in school, but MH graduates with his Masters in May.  We postponed TTC until now so that baby comes after he's out of school.

  • I work full time and I'm in school 2 nights/week to get a graduate degree and hopefully switch careers. We're definitely not waiting and seeing that things are taking longer than we'd like, I could really care less if it ends up interfering with school. I'd be so thrilled to be pregnant that I would figure it out with the instructor.

That said, it did cross my mind when I first started. I've quickly learned this isn't something you can plan out unless you are extremely lucky.

    GL to you

  • I was pregnant with my son in my last year of law school, and took (and passed!) the bar exam when I was 8 months pregnant!!! The timing wasn't perfect, but I didn't have any problems studying or with the exams.  I did have to put off interviewing with firms until I had him, but I ended up getting hired 4 weeks postpartum. Good luck!
