Trying to Get Pregnant

Why can't we say "pr*go"? (OT - board terminology)

Thanks for all the warm wishes.  I wasn't whining about people giving me a hard time about anything.  I wanted to know why people didn't like a particular term.  It was the only term I had seen people actively discouraging others from using on the board.  If you aren't interested in the conversation (which WAS a conversation before all the flaming started, your fascinating graphics notwithstanding), I don't understand why you care whether the conversation stops or continues.  The ONLY people whining are you guys.

Does anyone feel the same way about the term "knocked up" as they do about the term "prego"?  If so, I would love to hear why.

Are you on a mission to discuss all of the annoying wordss on the board?  If you use them, in a misguided effort to improve the board, please don't whine that people are giving you a hard time about it.  You just went through an entire page and a half of reasons why it is annoying.

    Good luck with that!

Did you not notice the only responses you got were negative ones? FFS. People discourage you from using the word bc it makes you sound like you're auditioning for 16 and pregnant and its not socially acceptable on this board. How hard is that to get? But now we've established you like to sound like an idiot no one will be shocked when you use the word.

Baby dust is generally frowned upon on the board and I hate the termAF.

I hate the term AF too.  I only use it on this board because everyone uses it for their period.  I think that is the only one that bothers me.  I think that prego or preggars bothers me because I just hear my mother in the back of my head saying them lol.

I honestly opened the thread because I fully expected it to die after the first page of posts trying to explain the negative reaction to words like prego and preggers.  Let's use your own logic - you think people should use the correct term for vagina, I think people are adults and can use the word pregnant.  People sometimes use phrases like PG and KU because it is faster than the whole word.

I wasn't saying you were whining.  I was giving you fair warning that if you know that the words are not well-received and you use them anyway, don't whine if/when you get the negative reaction you know is coming.  If you want to dare to be different, have fun!  I hope you have your big girl panties ready and waiting. Yes

LOLOL that sounds like my mom too!

  • I don't generally care what words people choose to describe pregnancy with, but that's just me. I think a lot of ladies don't like it here because it sounds childish, and prefer to use the adult terms, like sex, and pregnancy :D

Although I stated that I don't generally care what people call it, if anyone ever used the word "Preggles", I might have to flame them.

  • When I hear the word prego (that goes for preggie and preggers too) I immediately think of a baby obsessed 16 year old trying to get pregnant. It's overly cutesy and immature sounding to me.

Edited in response to the "babies are cute, pregnant women are cute" thing: Yes a baby will be cute, but if someone tells me I'm "cute" when I get pregnant I'll probably throat punch them.

Hi guys, I am new here, but have been lurking for a few months, and I've seen warnings several times about not using the word "pr*go" on this board. I'm now officially afraid to type the word out. Why is it so taboo? I'm not upset about people not wanting to use it (I frankly find the word too cutesy, but I'm not a fan of the term "baby dust" either, and no one seems to have a problem using that one) (I'm not telling anyone to stop using any of these words - I just don't choose to use them myself.) Oh, jeez, I hope I'm not inadvertently saying something offensive, but I really don't get it. I read on a website that being pg is sometimes referred as "the rabbit dying" - I mean, I'm just sayin' - there's worse terms people could be using... Is it a superstitious thing? Like saying Macbeth in a theater before a performance?

It's because you sound like a dumbass. There, I said it.

  • I think what I find funny is when people say that "preggers" is an abbreviation for pregnant.  FYI: An abbreviation is the shortening of a word (Like pregnant to PG) Preggers has just as many letters as pregnant.  So just type PREGNANT! lol.
