Trying to Get Pregnant

For ladies who have seen a RE

I have a question for you ladies who have seen a RE.

Last cycle marked our 1 year of trying. I have an appointment with my regular gyn on 12/6 for my annual exam. But I am thinking about making a appointment with a RE (I will talk to my gyn about it also) but I was just wondering what all do they do at the first appointment with a RE.

Re: For ladies who have seen a RE

  • For us it was a ton of medical hsitory for myself and DH!

I had a pelvic exam, a vaginal u/s (AKA date with dildo cam), adn bloodwork done.  After my pelvic and u/s the Dr talked to us about our options.  The first step was a HSG which I think is standard if you haven't had one yet and a SA for DH was needed.

  • We just talked about our medical histories.  The RE looked over the b/w done by my GYN doctor and had a very different interpretation of it.  He also talked about the SA that we already had done.

  • My first appointment was a bunch of paperwork, TONS of b/w (I think they took 9 vials), internal u/s, SHG & DH's SA.  The entire appointment was a little over 2-hrs, however it wasn't a "normal" appointment.  I joined a research study, so there was extra paperwork.  They also don't normally do all the testing on the first appointment, it's normally just the b/w & paperwork.

  • Thanks everyone. I am really looking forward to making an appointment with the RE.
  • I think for most people it's just an initial consultation/info. session.

My first appointment was an hour and a half long and my R.E. took me and DH's medical histories and referred us for the appropriate b/w and testing.

Good luck with your first appointment!
