Bathtime Drama

Betty Jane has always LOVED bathtime and we always do her bath right before bedtime. Now, for some odd reason, she has been crying during her bath. We've had out-of-town visitors for the past couple of weeks and she hasn't napped very well so maybe that has something to do with it.

Anyone else experience this? Maybe she's too tired by bathtime and I should try doing it 15 minutes earlier. Hmmmm... What do you think?

Re: Bathtime Drama

  • I used to do bath time at night, but M started signing to have her bath before her nap, so I bathe her in the morning now.

  • S loves her bath; but if she is tired or hungry, the bath turns into a nightmare.  We've gotten to the point that we won't bathe her after 6:30 and make sure she eats first - which actually works better as she is determined to wear her food in her hair.  It is all in the timing for us - hope this helps!

  • bathtime wasn't always as fun as it is now so i feel ya. what helped us was introducing a couple cheap toys and trying to play with her... and, when/if that didnt work, we just got thru it as quickly as possible. hopefully it's just a phase and she'll get over it soon.

  • We experienced this same thing when we had visitors. Matt LOST IT when bathing and I think he was overtired.  Once he got back into his routine he loved baths again.

On one thing I did try that worked when he was crying and wouldn't sit down in the tub was I got a little pail and poured water on his neck and shoulders. Since it was such a new sensation to him it shocked him out of crying. Since he loves it so much we make it part of the bath time play.

  • try moving the time and how you do it too.  A little variety can make a big difference.

  • I think being overtired plays a huge role.  Aaron usually loves baths, but if he's overtired, he's a monster in the tub.

I hope Betty Jane gets back to loving the tub.

  • Hmmmm, Ellie is rather the opposite.  If she's overtired, a bath often calms her down from that near frantic, must keep moving overtired state.  A quick bath, but it really helps.  GL

Yes, I think she might have gotten overtired from all the visitors. I'm home today so I'm going to make sure she gets really good naps and try her bath at 7:15 instead of 7:30. I'll try the pail idea as well. She loves the warm water!
